What the Hillel?!

All students who send in the correct answer to the question at the bottom of the weekly 'What the Hillel' will be entered into a drawing held at the end of each semester to win a $25 Amazon gift card as well as having a $25 donation made to the charity of their choice. Answer can be found within the email. (One entry per student per week)
IDF (Israel Defense Forces) Night
Monday, November 27  7:30 pm
Come learn and test your knowledge about the Israeli Defense Forces at this interactive evening with former IDF soldier and Israeli Emissary Tslil Reichman. Refreshments served. RSVP on Facebook.
Social Media and True Intimacy:  Noon-1:30 p.m. (Pizza lunch served)
URI Gender and Sexuality Center  19 Upper College Road
In this lecture, Fried will discuss how social media can create false intimacy instead of allowing students to experience true closeness. He will also discuss other dangers, explaining how platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr provide momentary distractions and embolden students to behave uncivilly toward one another. In addition, he will offer tips for healthy Internet relations and developing an appropriate online persona.
 
Sexual Health and Safer Sex:  2-4 p.m.
Memorial Union Atrium I, 50 Lower College Road
Fried will speak about healthy sexuality, safer sex, condoms, HIV drug treatments including PrEP, TasP, and PEP and other new health information related to HIV/AIDS. Educators from URI Health Services will participate to share what resources are available on campus.
 
From Scared to Sacred: AIDS Love and Staying Alive
Healing Service at 5:30 pm, Shabbat Dinner at 6:15 pm, 
Presentation at 7 pm  I
URI Hillel, 6 Fraternity Circle
A brief service of healing will be followed by a festive Shabbat Dinner and Fried's presentation.  Detailing his personal story - contracting HIV at age 24 and surviving three decades, Fried is honored to mark the 30th anniversary of the date of his diagnosis at URI on December 1. He will describe how he turned a curse into a blessing and what lessons others can learn from his story. Reservations are required for the dinner portion of this event and may be made on using this form There is no charge for dinner but donations are appreciated.

Non-Perishable Food Drive
Now through the end of finals students at Hillel will be conducting a food drive to donate to the Jonnycake Center of Peace Dale. All non perishable food items and monetary donations are welcome. We encourage you to bring an item when you attend an event. 
Parsha and Ping Pong

Tuesday, November 28  5pm
Sex, Intimacy and Family issues: Come for some Torah Study and ping pong with Rabbinic Intern Stephen Slater. Explore these provocative themes from the weekly Torah portion alternating with a few rounds of ping pong. 
Practice Your Hebrew 
Tuesday, November 28  6pm
Would you like to learn a little Hebrew or keep the Hebrew you know from gettin g rusty? Join Stephen Slater each week for an interactive Hebrew lesson. All levels welcome.
