The Annual 12 Days of Caring is coming up at Sanborn Regional High School.  This year, the event will be run a little differently; we will have six boxes set up in the atrium for ALL 12 days.  This means that any of the items listed can be dropped off on any of the following dates: December 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 18th, and 19th.  Also, a note that we will not be taking any clothing donations- we are including a clothing drive during our Winter Carnival event in February. All items will be donated to many great causes- so let's make this the best 12 Days of Caring yet!

Senior Spotlight : Kelsey Bunker
An Article by Social Studies Teacher Brian Gray

Kelsey Bunker is a graduating senior this year at Sanborn Regional High School.  She is a problem solver who likes to take on roles that may not be the most glamourous, but she is passionate about their importance. She is an asset to have in the classroom setting because of her ability to work with others, her willingness to seek feedback from peers and teachers, and her zest for learning. She is a compassionate person who cares about all individuals and this is evident in the different clubs and activities.
In her Modern Media class, she quickly became a student we could depend on to finish videos by deadline. She made a well-received video about a volunteer sports photographer, Kevin Pillsbury, for our school. She saw him at all the games and wanted to highlight how much he had done for the school. Kelsey always sees the best in people and recognizes those who are sometimes out of the spotlight. She has also been the videographer for the Girls Basketball Program. This is a position that is hard to fill on a team because of its thankless nature, but Kelsey took pride in want she did. She always showed up to games on time, had the equipment ready and always had a smile on her face doing it.  She will be missed in our Girls Basketball Program after she graduates this year, and will be tough to replace. She is also active in the Justice Committee and the Diversity Club working to make sure that all students are treated fairly and have a voice.
When Kelsey is not using her time to bring positive change at the Sanborn, you can find her reading comic books and collecting vinyl records. She wears her personality proudly and is always sporting very cool hoodies that shows off her different interests. Kelsey Bunker is always bringing a smile to teachers and students here at Sanborn with her compassionate spirit and her ability to be herself. She will be missed in the Sanborn Community next year and we look forward to hearing about what great things she will do in the future.

Summary of The Feedback Survey
A Message From Mr. Stack, Mr. Dawson, Mrs. Leavitt, and Mr. Krzyzanowski

In November of 2017, school administrators at Sanborn Regional High School asked the community to respond to two questions: What does our school do well? What could our school do to be better?

Over the period of 9 days, 86 individuals responded to the survey, identifying themselves as students, parents/guardians, or community members. Here is a summary of the feedback given.

Top three things that our school does well:

Our school communicates often : By far, the single most positive feedback our school received was for its communication with the community. Survey respondents appreciated both the depth of information as well as the multiple forms of communication. The top two most-used forms of communication noted were the Points of P.R.I.D.E. weekly newsletter and the automated phone system.

Our school engages students, parents, and the community : Survey respondents appreciated the level to which our school goes to engage different groups of people, both in and out of the classroom. Many people commented on the high level of school spirit and also the variety of programs, clubs, and activities available to students and families.

Our school provides equity to all students: We received quite a bit of positive feedback on equity - the steps our school takes to include all students and provide them with personalized, individualized pathways to success.

Top three things that our school could do to be better:

Look for better ways to address student discipline : Many survey respondents thought the school should look for better ways to address student misbehavior in a fair and consistent manner. It was noted that bullying situations, in particular, can be a problem for some students.

Look for better ways to communicate on certain things : Communication was considered an area of strength for many, but it also came up as an area for improvement. Specifically, survey respondents had two suggestions: 1. Parents and students would like to see more communication on academics and grades. 2. Community members who do not have children in the school would like to see more news in the Carriage Town News.

Work with teachers on improved instructional techniques and developing relationships with students: We received quite a bit of feedback on our teachers, and that feedback seemed to suggest that our staff as a whole could benefit from increased professional development on instructional strategies that could increase student engagement and achievement to training on how to strengthen relationships with students.

Next Steps:

School administrators appreciate the individuals who took time to offer us feedback on what our school does well and what we could focus our efforts on to improve. In the coming weeks and months, you will see additional communication from our team as we work with our staff to take action on the items noted above. We will likely ask for more feedback again later in the school year.

Thank you, again, for your feedback and your partnership as we make Sanborn Regional High School a premiere school for the children of Kingston, Newton, and Fremont!
