'Tis the Season!
This is the final school week for our Knights of the 2017 calendar year. The last day for students prior to the winter break is Thursday, December 21st. Our teachers will be on campus Friday, December 22nd to finish compiling second quarter grades for report cards which will be distributed next month.
I know that many of our families will be leaving home over the winter break so I ask all to please travel safely. AAA released their 2017 holiday travel forecast last week estimating that over 97 million Americans will be behind the wheel, so please remember to buckle up and keep an emergency kit in your vehicle.
Thank you for your support during the first half of the 2017-2018 school year. I wish you a wonderful winter break, holiday season, and best wishes for the New Year!
In Knights Honor,
Stephanie R. Jackson, M. Ed.
Principal, Lake Nona Middle School

Knights of the Five Star School Award
|
Ms. Munich-Hall accepted our Five Star School Award from the FLDOE
Recognizing that the involvement of the community is vital to student success, the Commissioner of Education and the Commissioner's Community Involvement Council established the
Five Star School Award.
This symbol of achievement is presented each year to those schools that have shown evidence of exemplary community involvement. Eligible schools are designated annually and must be renewed each year. Schools that achieve this designation will receive the Florida Department of Education's highest award for community involvement.
In order to qualify for this award, a school must achieve 100% of these criteria in the categories of:
Business Partnerships, Family Involvement, Volunteers, Student Community Service, and
School Advisory Councils. The school must also have a portfolio that documents the achievement of each criteria.

SSYRA BOOK OF THE WEEK
The Girl in the Well is Me by Karen Rivers (Review by Goodreads.com)
Longing to be one of the popular girls in her new town, Kammie Summers has fallen into a well during a (fake) initiation into their club. Now Kammie's trapped in the dark, counting the hours, waiting to be rescued. (The Girls have gone for help, haven't they?)
As hours pass, Kammie's real-life predicament mixes with memories of the best and worst moments of her life so far, including the awful reasons her family moved to this new town in the first place. And as she begins to feel hungry and thirsty and light-headed, Kammie starts to imagine she has company, including a French-speaking coyote and goats that just might be zombies.
Karen Rivers has created a unique narrator with an authentic, sympathetic, sharp, funny voice who will have readers laughing and crying and laugh-crying over the course of physically and emotionally suspenseful, utterly believable events.
