Celebrating the Christian Year in Scripture, Song and Sacrament

We keep track of time and seasons of the year by using calendars that provide us opportunities to observe, commemorate, and celebrate certain events or occasions. The changing seasons of the year also provide us with recurring opportunities to celebrate the Christian Faith in worship. The Christian church, following earlier Jewish tradition, has long used the seasons of the year as an opportunity for festivals and holidays, sacred time set aside to worship God as the Lord of life.

While Jewish celebration revolves around the Exodus from Egypt, the Christian Church year focuses on the life and ministry of Jesus. The sequence of festivals from Advent to Resurrection Sunday becomes an annual spiritual journey for worshippers as they kneel at the manger, listen on a hillside, walk the streets of Jerusalem, hear the roar of the mob, stand beneath the cross, and witness the resurrection! The rest of the church year provides opportunity to reflect on the meaning of the coming of Jesus and his commission to his people to be a light to the world. (Thanks to Reverends Robin and Steven Bratcher for their helpful commentary).

This Sunday marks the last week of the Christian Year and the Reign of Christ as the Lord of life. We'll celebrate and learn more about the flow of the seasons of the church with scripture, song and sacrament, and give Bibles to our children in 4th and 5th grades at 9:30. Join us for this meaningful time of worship for all ages!

"Angels Among Us" Advent Worship Series - December 3rd
Advent Worship Series - December 3rd - 31st
Theme: Our message to the world should be that of the angels, "Do not be afraid."
The angels that appear in the story of Jesus' birth would have been very comfortable in our high-paced, chaotic world.  Their messages were often short and to the point-their favorite line being, "Do not be afraid."  As we look at the stories of these winged messengers to Zechariah, Mary, Joseph and the Shepherds and their reactions to them, we will contemplate what messages we can offer that will counteract a culture of fear and bring more hope, more peace, more joy, and more love to the world .

December 3rd - Make Ready a People - Luke 1: 5-25, 57-80

December 10th - Nothing is Impossible - Luke 1:26-56

December 17th - Do Not Be Afraid - Matthew 1:18-25 (Praise Team Christmas Cantata at 9:30 a.m.)

December 24th  - Chancel Choir Christmas Cantata, ONE COMBINED worship service at 10:00 a.m.

December 24th - This Will Be a Sign - Lessons & Carols - Luke 2:1-20  (Christmas Eve worship service times 5:00, 6:30, 8:00 & 9:30 p.m.)

December 31st - Get Up and Go - Matthew 2:1-23 (ONE COMBINED worship service at 10:00 a.m.)

There is no obligation to join Peace just because you take the class.  Join us on Sunday, December 3rd   for our new member class and free luncheon from 12:15 - 2:00 p.m.  Should you have any questions, or wish to join the class, please contact Rev. LeeAnn Inman 407-462-7374 or [email protected] .
Peace Parking Lot Blood Drive - December 10th
Blood is essential for life. It carries oxygen and nutrients throughout the body, fights infection and helps to heal wounds.  Everyone has this self-generating resource that can be generously given to others--when and where it's needed most.  Our next Peace Blood Drive is on Sunday, December 10th from 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.  Don't wait for a tragedy to donate blood--it's greatly needed during the holiday season. Cancer patients, trauma patients, premature babies and sickle cell patients need blood every day. Please eat a good breakfast, bring a photo ID and come prepared to give!
Annual Christmas Gift Share - December 10th
Do you have NEW or GENTLY USED items that you would like to give away for someone to use as Christmas gifts?  Peace is once again sponsoring a day of sharing where folks can bring in items and others may take them to give to their families and friends (reduce, reuse, recycle).   On Sunday, December 10th simply bring in items to donate and place them on the tables located on the church portico. Everyone is then welcome to "shop" in between worship services. This is re-gifting with a purpose. Remember, this is Christmas without money, but only open hearts. If we have any leftover gifts, they will be donated to local charities. For more information contact the Church Office. Start collecting your items now!
Christmas Angel Tree Gift Card Drive
Once again this Christmas season, we'll have an opportunity to have a direct impact on local families who could use some extra help through our Christmas Gift Card Drive.  You can donate gift cards to major retailers (Target, Wal Mart, Publix, etc.) and we will distribute them to families in need from our congregation and local community.  Gift cards give families the dignity to make decisions for themselves-they are the most knowledgeable about their greatest needs.  We get to be a generous part of sharing God's love in a meaningful way.  We suggest small denomination gift cards ($10 or $20 amounts), so we can distribute them more easily (but as many of those as you like).  Simply drop them off in the offering plate or at the Church Office.  You may also designate contributions to this cause, and we'll purchase the gift cards for you!  If you wish, you can personalize the gift cards by taking an angel from the tree that will be in the back of the sanctuary during the month of December. Color the angel and write a special Christmas greeting to the family who will receive your gift card!
