Make your plans to attend

At ArtCentre of Plano
6:30 PM to 8:30 PM
This event
will be a great opportunity to socialize with other PAA memb
ers and their guests. It is set to be an evening of fun, food and holiday cheer. The plan is to have the event catered by Chocolate Angel who will be serving up really yummy tasting food. Special holiday beverages and desserts will round out the fare.
For the Season of Giving Each member is asked to bring an "art supply gift" that will distributed to needy children by two local family charity organizations. Items suggested by the charities:
Student grade
paint brushes, acrylic paint, canvases, Mr Sketch mark
ers, model magic, and various loose items like gems, rocks, shells, sketch books, drawing supplies, journals without lines, etc. Also, consider supplies that you think teenagers would like.
Maestro Hector Guzman, Music Director of the Plano Symphony, will be a special guest presenter. He will share interesting perspectives on the confluence of art and music. He is a dynamic personality with high energy and a true love of all the arts.

rd, Maestro Hector Guzman is Music Director of the Plano Symphony Orchestra, the Irving
Symphony and the San Angelo Symphony in the United States. In 2004, he was declared winner of the "Seven Conductors-One Baton" International Conducting competition and appointed Music Director of the Jalisco Philharmonic in Mexico. Since 2010 and for the first time in its history, the Jalisco Philharmonic named him "Conductor Emeritus".

Annual PAA Members' Show
is just around the corner!

A Call for Entries will be going out soon to all PAA members to enter the 2018 Members' Show to be held at ArtCentre of Plano in January. Here are the key dates related to the exhibit.
12/1 - Call is Open for Submission Online
12/16 - Artist Submission Deadline Online
1/02 - Artist Notification of Pieces Accepted
1/06 - Artist Drop Off
1/11 - Opening of Show
1/20 - Reception
2/10 - Artist Pick Up
General parameters for submission will be one $25 fee, and you can enter up to three pieces. All art genre will be accepted. Size limit is 36" in greatest dimension. Acceptance will be on a first-come-first-serve basis. The total number of pieces submitted will determine whether one, two or three of your pieces will be accepted.The show will be limited to a total of 65 pieces.

nt and their art work up close.

AramArt Institute

Five more PAA artists
joined the tour in an Art Market at AramArt Institute located on
W. Parker Road, near Custer Road. It is estimated that approximately 600 people took advantage of the tour as guests in the artists' studios. Here are some of the participating artists' comments:
"I had over 50 visitors. More than half the attendees were going on the tour for the first time. Most heard about it in the Dallas Morning News from the Friday Metro section. To Gene and all the organizers, Thank you! The signs, website and publicity were great!"

"I had only 39 people in the two days but sales of $1,600.00 and a commission for a
48 x 60 painting for $2,000.00 so for me a great weekend. I really thank you so much for all your hard work and I had some from Plano and even Dallas as well!"

The final three-dimensional mural-type installation being fabricated is to be located at 15th Street and Avenue K in the heart of Downtown Plano. This exciting interactive "Soundwave" design is still on schedule to be completed and installed by the end of December. It will have an amazing audio interactive component so that the mural actual delivers sounds from Plano's heritage.

PAA ARTIST MEMBER OF THE MONTH SPOTLIGHT
STEVE WRIGHT
This month we are casting
|

|
a spotlight on PAA member Steve Wright. Steve exhibited his work at the October Members' Meeting Art Share and was awarded first place. He received a gift certificate from Asel Art Supply. The following is Steve's interesting journey in the fine arts.
"My first (and most enduring) passion is music and, while I have a BA in Vocal Performance, I also play several instruments, including string bass, woodwinds and guitar.
I enjoyed a wonderful early career in music, but have always been drawn to architecture and construction (my father and grandfather, both excellent carpenters, instilled a love of tools and problem solving). Even in my earliest years, I conceived and built structures and mechanisms, and loved the challenge of creating something from my own conception.
For the past three decades, I have worked for design and fabrication companies, taking two-dimensional plans and converting them into
three-dimensional realities. And, in the process of transforming raw materials into their final form, I worked and studied with local scenic artists who were masters of their craft.
Working alongside these talented artists led me to want to express myself on smaller pieces of canvas. I've taken various art classes and explored different techniques and mediums. Much of my inspiration still comes from music but, as with all artists, there are many other themes that personally resonate with me. I will always think of myself as a vocal artist and musician, but continue to search for my unique artistic voice in visual arts, as well.
So now, I think of myself as an artist with unlimited means of
self-expression.

Marian Hirsch demonstration at October Members' Meeting

At the PAA
October Members' Meeting, Marian Hirsch showcased remarkable skills in her demonstration of pastel painting. During a very short hour and half time frame she executed a beautiful, colorful fall landscape. Wishing for more time to further develop the piece, she did so in her studio. Beautiful results!

PAA Plein Air Event in the park and Downtown Plano
February 16 and 17, 2018, will be held in Downtown Plano, Heritage Farmstead and ArtCentre of Plano. The event is a PAA collaboration with Outdoor Painters Society, Southwest Watercolor Society and ArtCentre of Plano. SAVE THE DATE!

PAA moving to become event oriented
|

Over the last number of months, PAA has become more focused on events and opportunities for members to show their work and witness professional demonstrations for enhancing their skills. We hope to continue to enhance these member benefits in the coming months.
One thing that continues to be a challenge with planning and executing events and exhibits is the fact that we are an all-volunteer organization. That means we need more volunteers to step up to pitch in. Please make known your interest and availabity to help with specific tasks.

Expanding the PAA Board of Directors and Advisory Council
We are aggressively soliciting more individuals to assist with the current and future leadership of the organization. The Board recently met and identified a number of member and non-member candidates. Those candidates are being contacted and we should soon be announcing new additions to our board and council.
