ACT NOW TO ENSURE $35.3 MILLION FOR ABE IN FY16 STATE BUDGET!

FY 16 Budget Request

- We need you, your colleagues, and your students to contact your state representatives and state senators with a strong message about the need for ABE in their community and the need for a $5 million increase in ABE funding to $35.3 million.

FY 15 ABE Budget Cut Under 9C Action

 - In November 2014, Governor Patrick made FY 15 budget cuts under Section 9C of Chapter 29 of the Massachusetts General Laws to balance the budget and avoid a projected budget shortfall.

-  ABE was cut $705,513 from $30.3 million to $29.6 million, but ACLS was able to avert any direct impact on funded programs.

-  However, this cut makes it is even more imperative that we strongly advocate for an ABE increase in FY 16.

-  Please call your legislators nowThey are hearing from other advocates about budget priorities, and they need to hear a strong message from you why ABE funding should be increased in FY 16 to $35.3 million.

-  After you've called, please email the person listed for your region to let us know whom you called so we can keep track of which legislators have been contacted.

WHEN YOU CALL YOUR LEGISLATORS:

- Speak with an aide if the legislator is not available.  A conversation with the aide is just as valuable.

- Urge your legislator to urge the legislative leadership to include $35.3 million for Adult Basic Education (line item #7035-0002).

-  This infographic provides all the information you need to make the case for the importance of ABE.  For more information see Alert #2 - FY2015.

-  Remember to tell your legislators about your program and the successes of your students!

-  Invite your legislators to visit your program!  It's a great way for them to meet students, hear directly about their successes, and see for themselves why ABE is so important.
