December 15, 2017 Fifty-Sixth Edition

December 15, 2017

Brothers & Sisters,

Cory Iverson, 32-years-old, a highly respected and well-liked Fire Apparatus Engineer (FAE) with CAL FIRE, was killed yesterday in the Thomas Fire roaring through Ventura and Santa Barbara counties.

Firefighting is a noble profession and the men and women who make it their life sometimes pay for it with their lives. As colleagues and as human beings we grieve for this young man with such a bright future and the young family that will now go forward without a loving husband and father. We pray that they will always understand that Cory was a hero and, because of him, our communities are safe and people are able to sleep knowing that the dangerous calls get answered by someone.

This holiday season is now a time to grieve and to reflect on what is important, our families, friends, coworkers and brother and sisters who protect our citizens.

Fraternally,

President

FIRE DEPARTMENT TOY DRIVE BRINGS A LITTLE BIT OF SPARK FOR THE HOLIDAY
THE SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 12/3/2017

Sometimes, all it takes is just a little spark to give rise to a tradition that warms the hearts of many.

Twenty-five years ago, a group of Southern California firefighters did just that with the first Spark of Love Toy Drive.

Since then, more than ten million toys have been collected by municipal fire departments across the region.

And then there's the big day: Dec. 24 is when all Fire Department employees help distribute toys to families.   READ MORE
