EMS Board Approves 2018-2019 Calendar

The first day of classes for students for the 2018-2019 school year will be Monday, August 20, 2018, according to the 2018-2019 School Calendar approved by the Board of Trustees during the December 11 regular meeting.

Student holidays for the 2018-2019 school year are Labor Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and Memorial Day. The calendar also includes two days in October as holidays for students and professional learning for staff. District breaks reflect traditional community preferences of a week at Thanksgiving and Spring Break, and two weeks for Winter Break. The last day of school for students is Thursday, May 31, 2019, with graduation also on May 31.

The first day for teachers will be August 8, 2018. Employees new to the district for 2018-2019 will attend orientation on August 6-7, 2018. S everal adjustments have been made for 2018-2019 to streamline and support professional learning, and specific details regarding professional learning opportunities and options will be provided to employees.

The calendar was developed using a multi-layered, committee-based process. To read more about the process or download a printable version of the 2018-2019 School Calendar, click here.

Nearly 500 Attend EMS Holiday Open House

Welcoming nearly 500 guests throughout the day, EMS ISD hosted its annual Holiday Open House on December 13 at the district administrative offices. The event was open to staff, parents, and the community. Student fine arts performances were scheduled throughout the day and holiday refreshments were provided by EMS ISD employees.

The HCTC Culinary Arts students helped with replenishing the refreshments brought by employees throughout the day. Art students from each campus decorated ornaments to represent their school that were hung in the district office lobby.
