In Utero

Mary, Immaculate, meek, mild, miraculously impregnated still a child finds Hannah's heart rhythm, heroine of ancient lore, barren woman empty no more, proclaiming God's goodness filling her void, vowing a world upside down, power to the powerless.

In Mary's womb throbs another heart promising eternal life to those without hope. Does that tiny embryo rocking in nascent bliss hear his mother's Magnificat and in his later years remember the proclamation "God will satisfy the hungry," commanding His followers to do the same?

P O N D E R

Mary's song contrasts favoredness, power and wealth to lowliness, servanthood and hunger. What joy do you experience because of the gifts you have received?
How might you share some of what you have to bring joy to others?

P R A Y

God of all blessings, Even though I am your humble servant, you know me. Thank you for blessing me and mine through Mary and the incarnation of Jesus.

You have done great things for me. Your mercy has been poured out on me, and to those who will come after me.

Show Your strength in my life and in the lives of those I love. Send the proud and arrogant away in disarray. Bring low those who abuse power. Elevate and bring dignity to those who are on the margins. Fill the hungry with food. Inspire the rich to share their abundance. Come to the aid of all Your servants. Lord, remember Your great mercy. Amen.
