Worship & Music Ministry Plans All Saints Day Service
This Sunday November 5 at 10 a.m. St. Brendan's will include in the Eucharist an Order of Service commemorating all saints from the congregation who have died. These 14 members of the parish will be individually recognized by the lighting of a candle. This will be a wonderful opportunity to recall their contributions to our parish and the community, to honor them, and to remember that they remain part of our congregational family. All the community is invited to attend.

Nominations to Episcopal Transition Committees:
The Standing Committee will seek nominations, appoint, and announce members of two Committees to aid in the Diocese of Maine's Episcopal Transition:
- The Discernment Committee will survey the diocese, create a diocesan online profile, receive nominations, screen/interview nominees, and present a slate of qualified bishop candidates to the Standing Committee by November 2018.
- The Transition Committee will manage the details of the candidates' walkabouts, the bishop election, and the ordination/consecration in 2019. They will also actively support Bishop Lane, the bishop-elect, and their families with their transitions.

Scripture Notes for All Saints Day
Today we celebrate the Feast of All Saints. A central feature
of that celebration is Holy Baptism, by which we have become members of the communion of
the saints. This is one of the four times during the year when Baptism is most appropriately
administered. All of us will join in renewing our baptismal vows.
The term "saint" means "a holy person." The doctrine of the saints is not that saints are a few
exceptional Christians who were holy in themselves: instead,
it reminds us that no one can
become holy without the indwelling of God's Holy Spirit. The saints are all those who in
baptism received the Spirit of God. Thus, the festival of All Saints is the celebration of all
baptized people, for we have all been given the gift of the Spirit.
The readings today describe the result in the lives of God's people of the holiness that comes
from the Spirit. The reading from Revelation sees the redeemed in white robes, dressed as the
early Christians dressed newly baptized people, and led to the baptismal streams of living water.
John reminds us that God is restoring us to the fullness of God's image and likeness. The call of Jesus to saintliness is a radical call to live lives directed by love toward others, as the
Beatitudes remind us. Our liturgical gatherings are meant to be more than a blessing for us who a
ttend; they equip us to live out
our baptismal vocation in lives that proclaim the good news of
Christ in concrete actions of love and care for others.

In Our Prayers
We pray for those on our prayer list suffering and recovering from illnesses,
especially Wilma Turner, William, Pat Stoneburner, Tony Stoneburner, Holly, Carolyn Angel, Colin MacNaught, Shannon Cormier, Nancy Stearns, Daniel Harriman, John, Tom, Claudia, Hannah Scaife, Marcia Scott, Sen. John McCain, Henry 'Hank' Millon, Jennifer Hulsey and her family Byron, Ben, and Clair. We pray, also, for those who love and care for them.
We pray for those struggling with addiction and mental illness.
We pray for all those receiving care through Neighbor Care and for all the residents of the Island Nursing Home, the Northern Bay Residential Facility,
and their families.
We pray for the dying, and those who have died. We remember also those who mourn.
We pray for the victims of gun violence-in our cities and towns, in our schools, in our places of worship, and in our homes.
We pray for the victims of the violence of armed conflicts around the world. We pray for those made refugees by the violence of armed conflicts. We pray for the victims of terrorist attacks everywhere.
We pray for all who suffer the effects of domestic violence and the violence
of bullying in our schools.
We pray for all peacemakers, and all those who work for justice.
We pray for all those serving in the armed forces of our country,
remembering, especially, Craig, Chris, and Graham.
We pray for all who govern, and we pray for the concerns of our local community, remembering, especially, our children, our young people, and
our isolated elderly.
We pray for Justin, Archbishop of Canterbury; Suheil, Bishop of Jerusalem; Michael, our Presiding Bishop; Steve, our Bishop; for the members of our vestry; and for all our members, whose ministries are varied and far-reaching.
In the Diocesan Cycle of Prayer, we pray
for the democratic process and the right to vote. For Civil Discourse during a time of election. For our sisters and brothers in common mission in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America on the 500th anniversary of Reformation Sunday.
In the Anglican Cycle of Prayer, we pray for
Thoothukudi - Nazareth - (South India)
On the Island and Peninsula,
we pray for South Penobscot Baptist Church.
