Message from the President
Friends,
I am feeling
grateful for all of you during this season of giving. Thank you for helping us celebrate the "goodness" of Howard County at the 22nd Holland Awards Dinner and through our recent "1,000 Turkeys 1,000 Thanksgivings" campaign!
I hope you were moved and inspired by the evening's programming as much as we were. The Tanor family's journey from poverty to self-sufficiency, via CAC programs and support, energizes us to do more and go deeper with those who find themselves in the midst of crisis. The commitment of Senator Guy Guzzone and County Executive Allan Kittleman to put people before politics strengthens our will to extend our hands and lift up those who are struggling to make ends meet. The powerful speech by Mary Ann Scully, President and CEO of Howard Bank, motivates and challenges us to "design a world where everyone has the choice to achieve self-sufficiency."
Our most sincere congratulations to Senator Guzzone and County Executive Allan Kittleman for receiving the prestigious Holland Humanitarian Award for their outstanding contribution to improving the lives of tens of thousands of Howard County residents and for their commitment to being the voice for the voiceless.
We also thank Mary Ann Scully for the biggest surprise of the evening! Howard Bank's announcement to increase their financial support to CAC by "tenfold" demonstrates their continued commitment to empowering individuals and strengthening communities.
We start this season of giving feeling energized, inspired, strengthened, and challenged to make our corner of the world a better place than we found it. Cynthia Tanor recited the famous quote "we can't direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails," reminding us that while we can't control what happens around us, what we do about it is certainly within our control.

CAC Provides Thanksgiving Meal Ingredients to
1,000 Families
CAC's Turkey Distribution increased from 800 meals last year to 1,000 this holiday season. To learn how CAC achieved this goal and why the recipients are very grateful.
THANK YOU to all the individuals and businesses who gave to our 1,000 Turkeys, 1,000 Thanksgiving campaign to make this all happen. We exceeded our goal!

GIVING TUESDAY...
LiveGiveRun with
Charm City Run!
Each year, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, nonprofits around the country participate in a National Day of Giving. This year, Charm City Run in Columbia has selected CAC as its beneficiary for their "LiveGiveRun" Giving Tuesday event. All proceeds support CAC.

Holland Dinner Highlights How CAC Changes Lives
Hundreds of people gathered for CAC's 22nd Annual Holland Awards Dinner on October 19 at Turf Valley. It was a festive evening focused on serving the most vulnerable people in our community.

The Howard County Chamber of Commerce selected CAC President Bita Dayhoff as
Business Person of the Year, and presented this honor to her at the 2017 Signature Event on October 6 at Turf Valley. This award is given annually to an individual who has served the Chamber and Howard County community in an extraordinary way.

Congratulations to Head Start Policy Council ChairYashica Maclin for being awarded the Community Foundation's 2017
Leadership Council Award
. She received her award at the Community Foundation's Annual Dinner on November 16 at Turf Valley.

Spread the Joy This Holiday Season
Wanted: Individuals, families, organizations, and businesses to brighten up the holidays for families.
Several Head Start families have expressed interest in being adopted. CAC will provide adopters contact information, sizes and special wishes, and givers can decide what to purchase.

End of Year Giving:
Tax Credits (MAY) Become Available
CAC has traditionally
in the past received tax credits through the Community Investment Tax Credit Program (CITC) and we are waiting to hear if we will receive additional credits at year's end for Maryland individuals
and businesses.
Tax credit programs enable tax payers to reduce what is owed to the state through qualified charitable donations. Through the CITC program, donors to CAC can earn a Maryland tax credit of 50 percent, in addition to federal and state income deductions.
Donations must be a minimum of $500 to qualify.
What does that mean? Maryland residents and businesses who make the minimum contribution of $500 to the CAC will receive back $250 in a special Maryland tax credit in addition to the federal and state deductions.
Please consider CAC in your year-end giving plans and reach out to us if you are interested in tax credits if they should come available.
