ACT NOW TO ENSURE $35.3 MILLION FOR ABE IN FY16 STATE BUDGET!

-  State representatives and state senators are preparing their FY16 budget "wish list" and will soon be meeting with House and Senate leadership to advocate for their budget priorities.

-  We need you, your staff, and your students to call your state representative(s) and state senator to make sure they hear, loud and clear, about the need for ABE in their community and the need for a $5 million increase in ABE funding to $35.3 million.

-  Please call your legislators nowThey are hearing from other advocates and need to hear from you regarding ABE before they finalize their wish list.

-  After you've called, please email to let us know whom you called so we can keep track of which legislators have been contacted.

WHEN YOU CALL YOUR LEGISLATORS:

- Speak with an aide if the legislator is not available.  A conversation with the aide is just as valuable.

- Urge your legislator to put $35.3 million for Adult Basic Education (line item #7035-0002) on his/her FY16 budget wish list when speaking with the legislative leadership.

-  This flyer provides all the information you need to make the case for the importance of ABE.

An infographic is worth 1,000 words!

*  The entire case for adult basic education is made visual.  Massachusetts depends on adult basic education and doesn't work without it.

* An adult's educational skills has a direct impact on economic inequality, the success of K-12 education reform, health, civic engagement and criminal justice -- all important state and community issues.

FY16 Budget Request:   The request includes the final funding levels for the past 2 years, the FY16 request and MCAE's priorities for the additional $5 million.

-
Research statistics:  There's a research statistic to support that ABE has a direct impact on a person's earnings, a child's success in school, healthcare, voting and incarceration.

-  Remember to tell your legislators about your program and the successes of your students!
