November, 2017        Happy Thanksgiving
Isaac Croyle, 13 TopSoccer Player - Engaged in Being an Active Kid

How You Are Making A Difference

Isaac's mother, Alana Croyle, will never forget the day his teacher Robert Godfrey mentioned to her Miracle League and how Isaac should participate. She wasn't sure how Isaac would react to to a sports activity since he didn't walk until age 5. Alana will always remember the first Miracle League game she went to...because she cried. She watched her son become energized and engaged in the game. She was able to sit back and enjoy,  "Miracle League is really a miracle," said Alana. It involves the community from the kids being buddies to the coaches, volunteers and all the parents involved. Each game, Alana invited family members, friends, church members and fellow teachers to experience the feeling she had watching her son participate in a sport as well as the community being involved to be there for kids.  Alana now finds herself more connected to her community as she talks about the Miracle League experience.

Issac is also involved in the TopSoccer and Bowling programs and is looking forward to Winter Ski. Recently at bowling, Alana was worried if Isaac would keep his shoes on, to her surprise not only were his shoes kept on, he didn't want to leave the building!  His involvement gives him a chance to be active as well as interact with other kids and other adults. Until Alana found the Society for disABILITIES she had not found a forum like this in Modesto,

Alana summed up that Isaac's experience is a spiritual shot in the arm for her. She gets to see her son being viewed as a kid, not a kid with a disability. She is thrilled to have found a program that celebrates Isaac for being Issac. She is grateful for the programs that have helped Isaac become active and also brings the community together.

Thank you to our many sponsors, donors, attendees, and volunteers for the 2017 Wild West Gala - Jeans and Jewels!  As always those in attendance had a great time and raised needed funds for the Society for disABILITIES. Feedback from the event was extremely positive. The rib-eye steak was delicious. Rodeo House kept the dance floor hopping. There were quite a few gamblers enjoying the casino area. The live and silent auctions were wonderful and there are many auction winners with travel in their future.  Click here to see our 2017 Gala sponsors and donors.  Pictures from Gala will be on our Facebook page soon.  Please check on our Facebook page in a few weeks.  Many thanks to our fabulous Wild West Gala Committee! Your hard work was greatly appreciated by all in attendance.

A Note from Marci Boucher,
the Executive Director

Hello everyone,

At this time of Thanksgiving, I want to thank you for your continued support of Society for disABILITIES. As an independent not for profit agency we rely on the financial support of the community to keep our doors open and programs up and running.  We are also grateful for participants and their families' involvement in helping to promote our programs as well as support our fundraising activities. To date in 2017 we are seeing increases in our existing programs.

Thank you to those who helped plan and attend our 2017 Wild West Gala - Jeans and Jewels!  If you missed this event, you missed a great event. Don't worry, there will be a Wild West Gala in 2018. Each year the Gala grows with more fun things to do. Thanks again to our many sponsors (see article), auction item donors, attendees, and volunteers.

The 2017 Exemplary Program Award for Adaptive Physical Education is proudly hanging in our reception area. We are truly humbled to receive this honor. Our partnerships with area school districts and the adaptive physical education teachers are priceless to our programs. This award is given to programs which have the highest quality standard of adapted recreation and sporting programs in the entire state of California.

Our board of directors and staff want to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving! Please know we are all grateful for your continued support. It is because of your support we are able to offer all of our programs and enhance the quality of life for people with disabilities in our community. Without you giving your time, talents, and treasure we wouldn't exist. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Thank you,
Marci Boucher
Executive Director
