A Burden Lifted: Michelle and Brian's Story

Michelle felt helpless. She stared at the checking account balance on her computer screen and the pile of bills that needed to be paid. Every month, there was a shortfall. The only way she and her husband, Brian, were able to fulfill their obligations was to pay some bills with their credit card. The debt was piling up and she was afraid she wouldn't be able to pay their rent.

Desperate, she picked up the phone and called 2-1-1.

The gateway intervention specialist listened to Michelle, asked questions, and was able to determine that Michelle would qualify for help through the Building Strong Families program. The program provides intensive support over a 6-12 month period to help families stay in their homes, and kids in their local school. This was especially important because Michelle and Brian's son, Jayden, was doing well in his junior year of high school.

Sascha, the Building Strong Families Care Coordinator, worked with Michelle and Brian and helped the couple set gradual financial goals. They also attended the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay's Money Matters class.

Sascha secured funds that covered education costs, so Michelle could obtain her Child Development Associate credential. This would allow her to qualify for a higher wage at the daycare where she worked.

Today, Michelle and Brian are able to meet all their monthly obligations. They are working on paying off their debt and Michelle plans to obtain the credential she'll need to be a daycare director.

Your support of the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay allows people like Michelle and Brian to have a gateway to help, hope, and healing during life's difficult times. Thanks for your support!
