An Honorable War

United States Naval Academy professor emeritus of English
Another review, this from best-selling author, James O. Born:
"An Honorable War takes the reader on a journey of passion and drama that history often overlooks. With the Spanish-American war as a backdrop, Robert Macomber weaves a great story of not only honor, but action and love."

TRAVELING IN PETER'S WAKE
PORTOFINO, ITALY
|
When in northwestern Italy, visit the fortified villa at Portofino where I spent time in 2005 researching and writing my 5th novel,
An Affair of Honor. I really hope you do!
Castello Brown was built in the 1500s, and for hundreds of years it was used as a fortress. Montague Yeats-Brown, a British diplomat, bought it in 1867 and converted it into a magnificent villa. His family owned it until 1949.
Now, it's open to the public (
www.CastelloBrown.com
).
This romantic spot is where a beautiful French woman enters Peter Wake's life and greatly complicates it. Who knows what will happen when you visit?

Doug Madigan brought his Wakian hat to wear on our
2017 Havana Reader Rendezvous a few weeks ago.
Behind Doug is a statue of a 19th Century Cuban
scholar & philosopher, who was revered by
José Martí:
José de la Luz y Caballero [1800 - 1862].
Have a photo of a Wakian wearing our hat or t-shirt or using our koozie? Send it by email, and, as space permits, we'll post it in an upcoming newsletter.

CLOSING THOUGHTS
|
Wow ~ 2017 has been incredibly busy for me. I've appeared at 72 events in 7 countries on 3 continents; which involved 17,300 air miles; 7,420 sea miles; and 6,655 road miles!
On a personal level, I've lost count of how many books I've signed (yes, I still get a thrill doing that), made some wonderful new friends, and renewed old acquaintances all around the globe, from China to Colombia.
I am proud to report we had a great success in taking readers to Santiago de Cuba to walk in Theodore Roosevelt's footsteps in the Spanish-Cuban-American War, which will be in my next novel,
Honoring the Enemy (out in 2019). And just a week ago, we had more fun than many ever thought possible at our 2017 Havana Reader Rendezvous [photo below]. What a memorable way to end the year!
Believe it or not, I'm ready to go back; but, for now, I plan to quietly celebrate Christmas by relaxing among the remote islands of this coast. In January, the adventures of 2018 begin, and they promise to be equally as vibrant for us. We look forward to sharing time with you in the near future!
In the meantime, I sincerely hope that each of you around the world has a peaceful, joyous, and meaningful season of Holy Days in your faith. I hope 2018 turns out to be your very best year yet.
Onward and upward, my dear friends, as we go bravely into 2018,
Bob
