Public Hearing to be Held on a Conditional Use Request for a Sheetz
A public hearing will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. at the Municipal Building, 600 Clearwater
Road, Hershey. The purpose of the hearing is to receive public comment regarding Conditional Use Request No. 2017-04, as filed by C&S Kray Real Estate, LLC and Sheetz, Inc.
The petitioners request that Conditional Use authorizations be granted under the provisions of Chapter 225 (Zoning),
Section 225-501.19 of the Derry Township Code of Ordinances regarding the development of a ‘major fuel service establishment’ and from Section 225-501.29 regarding the development of a ‘large-scale retail’ establishment on property located at the southwest corner of the intersection of Governor Road and Fishburn Road, Hershey.
The Conditional Use application and supporting information may be viewed at the Derry Township Department of Community Development, 600 Clearwater Road, Hershey, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Derry Township Police Department Partners with Private Social Network for Neighborhoods
The Derry Township Police Department announced it is partnering with Nextdoor (nextdoor.com), a private social network for neighborhoods, to improve township-wide and neighbor-to-neighbor communications.
This integration with Nextdoor will enable the Derry Township Police Department to build stronger, safer communities with the help of Derry Township residents.
Derry Township residents can create private neighborhood websites on Nextdoor to share information on neighborhood public safety issues, community events and activities, local services, and even lost pets. The Derry Township Police Department will be able to post information such as important news, services, programs, free events, and emergency notifications. Use of the site is free for residents and the Derry Township Police Department.
Members must verify their address before joining Nextdoor. Information shared on Nextdoor is password protected and cannot be accessed by Google or other search engines.

Board of Library Directors, Downtown Core Design Board, Municipal Authority, Planning Commission, Zoning Hearing Board, Tax Collection Association, Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, Uniform Construction Code Appeals Board, General Authority, Industrial Commercial Development Authority.

Hershey Area All Things Diversity Welcomes Television Producer and Screenwriter Joan Rater to Present on Creating an Inclusive Environment
Joan Rater will present
Creating an Inclusive Environment for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Members
on Monday, January 15, 2018, 5:30 to 7:15 p.m., at the Hershey Story Museum, located at 63 W. Chocolate Avenue.
Rater will share her experiences raising a transgender child with the hope that what she has learned will help to shape our dialogue for acceptance and understanding in the Hershey community.
After joining
Grey’s Anatomy
at the start of the second season with her writing partner and husband (Tony), Joan and Tony rose through the ranks and co-ran the show alongside creator Shonda Rhimes for 10 seasons. The Raters earned a WGA award for New Series in Television in 2005 for their work on
Grey’s
. They have also been nominated for two Emmys in 2006 and 2007, both for “Outstanding Drama Series.” Among other shows, Joan has also written for
Law & Order: Trial By Jury
as well as
Madam Secretary
.
The Hershey All Things Diversity educational sessions are organized by the Township, Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, The Hershey Company and Hershey Entertainment & Resorts.
A light supper and dessert will be provided to attendees. The sessions are free but seating is limited and advance registration is required.

Derry Church’s “Longest Night” Worship
Offers Comfort
Derry Presbyterian Church offers a "Longest Night" worship service f
or those who have empty places in their hearts and homes this Christmas season as the result of a divorce or loss of a loved one. This reflective, come-as-you-are service with communion will be held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 19 in the Chapel at 248 East Derry Road, Hershey. Refreshments will be served following the service.
The service is held on one of the longest, darkest nights of the year to acknowledge the pain and offer comfort.

Start the New Year off with Fun and Fitness!
Hershey Figure Skating Club's Adult Fitness and Fun class starts January 2. Each 6-week session will include 50 minutes of off-ice conditioning, followed by 60 minutes of figure skating (with a lesson appropriate to your level, and practice). Session 1 features Yoga as the off-ice offering, great for those who are beginning skaters (skate rental is available), or those who need to dust off the skates in the closet (talk to us about where to get skates sharpened). Session 1 -- Tuesdays, January 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 and February 6 at the Giant Center
7:00 to 7:50 p.m. - Yoga (Bring a mat and wear appropriate clothes.)
8:15 to 9:15 p.m. - Figure skating lessons and practice
The cost is $78 for the 6 weeks, plus a one-time $16 Learn-to-Skate USA membership, good until June 30, 2018.

GriefShare Support Group to Begin in January at Derry Church
GriefShare, a 13-week seminar and support group for those grieving the death of someone close, will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Tuesdays beginning January 2 through March 20, at Derry Presbyterian Church, 248 East Derry Road, Hershey. There is no cost to attend the program, but advance registration is requested by contacting the church office at 717-533-9667.
GriefShare is a Christian program that features biblical teaching, small group discussion, video seminars led by renowned experts on grief and recovery topics, and a workbook to help participants explore topics in depth.
Attendance can begin at any time. Each session is self-contained, and any missed weeks can be viewed when the next 13-week cycle is offered. Visit

Hershey Horticulture Society to Learn About Aquaponics
The Hershey Horticulture Society will hold their monthly meeting at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 8, 2018, at the Brownstone, 215 West Governor Road, Hershey.
Crystal Huff, Agricultural Specialist for INTAG Integrated Agriculture Systems, will present "Aquaponics" at 1:00 p.m. She will explain how aquaponic systems can be used to produce vegetables, fruits, and fish in both educational and commercial settings.
