SOCCER

Congratulations to SBA Soccer!  This year's team was the first team in SBA history to play in the State Championship game in Hershey, PA.  The team fought hard but lost in a close game, 1-0.  SBA is proud of the team, coaching staff and their accomplishments.  It was great to have 4 buses of students, faculty and staff supporting the team!  Looking forward to next season which seems promising!

Congratulations to SBA Senior and soccer player, Paulina Storck, who is featured in the Northeast Times this week!

YOUTH SYMPOSIUM

Last Thursday, current and former students of the  Race, Culture, and Ethnicity class traveled to the Philad elphia Convention Center to attend the 11th Annual Youth  Symposium on Anti-Bias and Diversity, hosted by the Anti-Defamation League.  Grace Comas, Erin O'Reilly, Shannon Matthews, Gabby Romano, and Cara Hughes joined Mrs. Kazimir and Mrs. Castellano.  They spent the morning in workshops with other high school students from around Philadelphia, discussing bias, bullying, and discrimination in our schools a nd communities.   We then came together for a working lunch, where our Basil girls worked together and brainstormed ways in which they can help implement anti-bias programs at our own school, and work to ensure that Saint  Basil sisterhood always includes everyone.  Finally, we listened to an address by keynote speaker, Akbar Hossain. Hossain is a student at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, was born in Bangladesh and spent his early years in Saudi Arabia. He and his parents emigrated to the U.S. just two days before September 11, 2001. After seeing the struggles his family endured as Muslim immigrants, Akbar became committed to c hallenging Islamophobia a nd helping other immigrants succeed.

SBA CARES

Sophomores served breakfast and visited with families at Ronald McDonald House this past Saturday.  The following is a thank you note that SBA received from a family who has been at Ronald McDonald House numerous times.  They have experienced our students' Basilian spirit of service and giving to others.

"E very time we are at the Ronald McDonald House we see the girls from Saint Basil Academy. Once again this weekend they were there cooking breakfast. When my eight-year-old granddaughter is with us she loves being with them and they are so kind to her.  Just wanted to let you know how much they are appreciated and how wonderful it is that they are learning to give back to the community. You can be very proud of them. Thank you!"
