It should be another wonderfully interesting weekend from a wine tasting standpoint. I don't know if we can compete with having Jean Francois Bourdy in the store pouring like last Saturday, but we're going to try. Friday, we'll have two guest pourers staggered over the afternoon and evening hours. Saturday's lineup is yet to be determined, but we have many fine options from which to narrow it down. Read on for all the details.

New Arrivals, Deals and Great Wines:

Bubbly*********************************************************

Loimer - Extra Brut Niederösterreich NV, Austria, $32.99
"This easy-going, organic fizz made from Grüner Veltliner, Zweiget and Pinot Noir falls into the
Klassik quality level. With its spiced green apple aromas and yeasty palate, it has great energy and
a very modern appeal. The rosé is equally delicious and a perfect match for lightly spiced foods."
92pts Decanter

Loimer - Brut Rosé Niederösterreich NV, Austria, $32.99
"The nose signals crunchy, crisp red apple, which also follows through on the sprightly, wonderfully foamy and fresh palate of exquisitely small bubbles. This is light but full-fruited, brimming with all the crunch of Red Delicious and Braeburn apples, supported by just a little shortbread richness from the yeast. There is concentration and poise, utter freshness and quite a bit of length." 91pts WE

Leclerc Briant Champagne Brut Reserve NV, France, $69.99
"Firm and focused, with a lively bead carrying an aromatic range of almond financier, crushed
blackberry, chalk and fresh ginger. Offers a lip-smacking, citrusy finish. Disgorged January 2015."
90pts WS

Whites*********************************************************

Zocker Gruner Veltliner "Paragon Vineyard" 2015, Edna Valley, CA, $19.99
"The nose on this bottling is immensely intriguing and unique, with gooseberry, grapefruit skin, wet river stone and the faintest whiff of Serrano chili. It's as racy as it can be on the sip, as the bright, fresh and grippy texture reveals flavors of underripe white peach, lime and tons of wet stone." 91pts & Editors' Choice -WE

Hofstatter Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc) 2016, Alto Adige, Italy, $21.99
This was a huge hit with our staff when we tried it earlier in the week. It is likely to make the
tasting lineup on Saturday.

Lagar d Cervera Albarino 2015, Rias Baixas, Spain, $21.99
"Yellow with green hues; clean and bright. It stands out for its great aromatic intensity. Marked notes of stone fruit (apricots) and white fruit (ripe apples, pears and quince) against a background of tropical fruit (pineapples). Powerful and buttery in the mouth, with a pleasant sensation of freshness. Very persistent aftertaste; complex and well balanced." -from the winery

Fouquet Vouvray "Silex" 2016, Loire Valley, France, $22.99
This vintage not yet rated; the 2015 was rated 92pts by Wine Advocate. This is excellent, off-dry Chenin blanc with super-cool mineral and flint notes.

Crossbarn (by Paul Hobbs) Chardonnay 2016, Sonoma Coast, CA, $29.99
"Linear and lean with wonderful freshness and crispness. Lots of lemon rind and citrus character
with hints of stone and mango. Medium body, crisp and delicious. Minerality, sea salt undertone.
Even gunpowder. Serious white for the money. Screw cap. Drink now." 93pts JS

Paul Hobbs Chardonnay "Edward James" 2014, Russian River, CA, $84.99
"The 2014 Chardonnay Edward James Estate delivers butterscotch, beeswax and brioche notes over peach cobbler, pineapple paste and marmite. The full-bodied palate provides powerful flavors, supported by a solid backbone of freshness and a satiny texture, finishing with a lingering peachiness." 94pts WA, also 97pts JS

Reds***********************************************************

Las Liebres Bonarda 2015, Mendoza, Argentina, $16.99
"I had not crossed paths with this wine in a while, so I was looking forward to tasting the 2015
Bonarda Colonia Las Liebres, a sure value and very representative of the grape. It's produced from
their own estate vineyards. They aim for a fresher expression of the variety here, with fine-grained
tannins, blending grapes from different zones in the province; the grapes are fermented in stainless
steel and kept in cement vats, never in contact with oak. 2015 was very warm towards the end of the cycle, and the harvest was 15 days earlier than anticipated. The nose is clean and the palate is
soft, a light Bonarda without any oak, a juicy, fresh and easy to drink expression of the variety.
It was harvested early and not extracted. The price is almost unbelievable; one to buy by the case."
90pts WA

Dom les Fines Graves Chenas 2015, Beaujolais, France, $21.99
"This cru wine is still young and firm. It has great tannins and a dense character that will give a
rich generous wine as it matures. Black-cherry fruit dominates along with the structure. It is a
solid wine that will be ready to drink from 2018." 91pts WE

Vina Cobos (by Paul Hobbs) "Felino" Malbec 2016, Mendoza, Argentina, $21.99
"This is focused and refined with a beautiful precision and finesse. Medium body, fine tannins, and
fresh wine. Very beautiful finish." 92pts JS

Vina Cobos (Paul Hobbs) "Bramare" Cabernet Sauvignon 2015, Lujan de Cuyo, Argentina, $42.99
This vintage not yet rated; 2013: 93pts WS, 2012: 92pts WE, 2011: 92pts WE & WS; so there is a nice pedigree here. The style is definitely plush and full, yet a touch compact, but it is just waiting
to explode from the glass with another 6 months in the bottle or just a good decanting.

Stoller Family Estate Pinot Noir Reserve 2012, Dundee Hills, Oregon, Reg. $41.99 , Sale $34.99
"The 2012 Reserve Pinot Noir is a vineyard and barrel selection of around 1,800 cases, selected by
blind tasting. Much of it comes from Pommard clone planted in 1995 and sees 40% new oak for 11
months. It has a well-defined bouquet with quite minerally red berry fruit, dried rose petal and
cranberry leaf scents that are well defined. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, brisk
red cherries and raspberry fruit with a nicely defined finish whereby the new oak is neatly embraced by the fruit. This is another very thoughtfully crafted wine that might show up a few more expensive Pinot Noirs." 91pts WA

Failla Pinot Noir "Sonoma Coast" 2015, California, $44.99
A consistent favorite with our staff - this vintage not yet rated. Previous vintage: 92pts V

Cordero di Montezemolo Barolo "Monfalletto" 2012, Piedmont, Italy, $56.99
"Exotic spice, French oak, mature berry, menthol and a floral note are some of the aromas you'll
find on this structured red. The ripe, chewy palate presents mature black cherry, raspberry compote,
espresso, licorice and aromatic herb while firm fine-grained tannins provide support. Drink 2019-
2027." 93pts WE

Paul Hobbs Cabernet Sauvignon "Stagecoach Vineyard" 2010, Napa, $199.99
"The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Stagecoach Vineyard is impeccably refined in this vintage. Sweet, dark berries, mint and licorice lead to raspberry jam, white flowers and cloves layered into this
impeccable, beautifully balanced wine. There are no hard edges or angular contours at all in this
finessed, vibrant Cabernet Sauvignon. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2028." 93pts WA
