CHOC Toy Drive Ends with Visit from Santa
Anaheim Hills students and families filled the Harley Davidson van with tons of toys! The Harley Davidson Owners Club will deliver hundreds and hundreds of toys from all of the Fairmont Private Schools campuses to the Children's Hospital of Orange County this weekend.

It was so much fun to see all of the "hogs" roar onto campus last week. Best of all, Santa came to visit, too! Visions of candy canes came true as all of the kids got hugs and candy canes from Santa!

Be sure to check out all of our CHOC Toy Drive photos!

Winter Break
We hope that you enjoy your holidays during winter break (December 18 until January 1). School will resume on Tuesday, January 2, 2018.

Save the Date!
Mark your calendars for our Open House on Friday, February 2, 2018!

Gingerbread House Real Estate Project
In order to kick off the persuasive writing unit, 5th grade students participated in the Gingerbread Real Estate Challenge. Each student was tasked with designing a gingerbread house ---   made entirely of candy ---   after looking at real estate postings online and talking about important aspects of a house to feature on a posting.

Students were very creative, incorporating items such as chocolate pools, chandeliers made of Twizzlers, Dots bean bag chairs, and so much more. After the houses were designed, each student reflected on what it takes to make a great realtor who sells a large number of houses. Each student created a realtor profile outlining his or her greatest strengths and weaknesses and brainstormed ways to connect with his or her sellers.

The next step was fielding potential buyer questions that each student answered with the help of the great advice from Mr. Davidson, a Fairmont Anaheim Hills parent and real-life realtor! Their persuasive techniques were put to the test when the 6th grade students came to the Gingerbread Open House and were asked to choose only one house to buy, based entirely on how the realtor sold it using only words ---   no prices were involved.

In the end, there was a tie between Cruz F. and Tate D., each awarded $1,000 class dollars. If only it were real money!

All of the photos from this engaging assignment are now online!

It's Time to Personalize Your Child's Yearbook!
You can now add your child's name and grade to his or her yearbook, and then you will be able to sort through past yearbooks more quickly when you spend hours taking a trip down memory lane!

This is a great way to personalize your student's yearbook ---   not only will his or her name be on the cover, but you can also add up to four icons that hold special significance from this school year. Your child can choose a basketball, a football, a volleyball, ballet shoes, a music symbol, an icon for drama, and so many other wonderful options!

Please complete this personalization form, and return it with payment (checks made payable to FPS) to the front office or to Vicky Mantell by Friday, January 28, 2018.

Cougar Chorus Touching the Hearts of Seniors
Tears of joy were shed last week as the Grades 1---    4 Cougar Chorus went caroling at the Anaheim Hills Senior Living Community. The chorus sang traditional carols, such as "O Christmas Tree," "Deck the Halls," "Here We Come A-Caroling," "Jingle Bell Rock," "Up on the Housetop," and the Chanukah song "S'vivon."

Following the bel canto (beautiful singing) style demonstrated by the chorus, the musicians walked around the audience, making introductions, shaking hands, and sharing stories. Many of the seniors were brought to tears by the compassionate interaction and, therefore, commented on the high level of maturity and sophistication that every child exhibited.

Overall, the experience brought the festive holiday spirit into the hearts of the elderly. Naturally, the children were invited to return as soon as possible.

The Cougar Chorus is an extracurricular program that meets every Wednesday morning in the music room. We are so proud of our young singers and the love and joy they spread this holiday season!

Happy Holidays from Your Fairmont Librarians
Winter break is a wonderful opportunity for your student to relax and enjoy a good book! Remind your child to stop by the library and select some favorite titles to enjoy during the break. New selections are now available in Fairmont's Overdrive digital library, which offers 4th through 8th grade students more opportunities to read the books they love on their mobile devices. We recently added a number of popular titles, and our students now have an impressive collection of more than 1,350 books from which to choose!

Happy reading!

Baking Treats for Hearts in Need of Hope
When you are tired of studying for finals, what do you do? You join Mrs. Kunkle at the Ronald McDonald House and bake! One student had a great time making and baking sugar cookies, chocolate chip cookies, and brownies for the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House.

It is not easy to have a child at a hospital with an illness or disease. Fairmont Prep is proud to join the Ronald McDonald House in promoting its mission "to provide comfort, care, and support to children and families in Southern California" and vision of "a community where children and their families embrace life and healing with a sense of hope, enthusiasm, courage, and joy." Paws for a Cause!
