First Semester Final Exams
Prepare for the 2-day exam schedule on December 21 and 22.

Lake Park's first semester final exam schedule will take place over two days on  Thursday, December 21 and Friday, December 22

During these exam days, all Lake Park students will have access to meal service, tutoring, and bus transportation that is provided on a typical school day. Buses will depart approximately 10 minutes after the end of the day and late buses will still run as usual departing at  4:00 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. from East Campus and 3:45 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.  from West Campus.

To help Lancers prepare for finals, the Bloomingdale Library will host "Exam Cram" daily from
December 18-20 from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. for any student in grades 9-12, including non-Bloomingdale residents. Students will have access to group and quiet study areas, reference help, Wi-Fi and computers. The library will provide caffeine, snacks and serve pizza at 7:00 p.m.
Miracle on 34th Street
Holiday play takes center stage this weekend!

Celebrate the holiday season with a performance of Miracle on 34th Street.  Following a successful opening night, the show runs through this weekend on December 15 at 7:30 p.m, December 16 at 7:00 p.m., and December 17 with a 2:00 p.m. matinee in the East Campus Dice Auditorium. Ticket prices are $5 for adults, $3 students (other high schools and college), and free for senior citizens, Lake Park students with ID and children under 13 years old.

With over 30 speaking roles, the large cast features freshman Danny Steetz as Kris Kringle, senior Grace Biernacki as personnel manager Doris Walker, senior Matt Dums as attorney Fred Grayley, and junior Ashley Borgman as Doris' daughter, Susan.

"I love a great holiday show, and this is one that appeals to the whole family," Director Kathy Carmona said. "We all need to believe in a little magic sometimes."
Lancers Spread Holiday Cheer
Sharing generosity and joy throughout the community.

Lake Park students, teachers and staff have been engaged in numerous philanthropic and volunteer efforts the past several weeks to help community neighbors and spread holiday cheer. Below are a few highlights:

Deck the Halls
Thanks to Lake Park's Stand for the Silent student organization for greeting classmates and staff on December 14 at West Campus and today at East Campus with hot chocolate. The sounds of the jazz band and choir filled the front entrances with holiday music and added to the festive spirit!

Caroling Choir
The Lake Park Choir could be heard on campus and around town signing the songs of the season. From community caroling at the Roselle Cocoa Crawl to a performance at the Distinguished Citizens Reception, the voices brought smiles and joy to people of all ages.

"Giving Tree"
Together the East Campus Sophomore Class Council and West Campus Civics in Action class sponsored the annual "Giving Tree" to benefit underprivileged children in Bloomingdale Township. Lancer students and staff were invited to take a bell with age/gift description for families in need and return a wrapped gift with the bell taped to the present.
Newsworthy and Noteworthy
This week featured campus visits from a WGN-TV news crew to a celebrity Apprentice.

Congratulations to East Campus English teacher Darcie Murray who was selected as the WGN-TV "Teacher of the Month" for December 2017.  Candidates are judged on their educational achievements in the classroom, community contributions and innovative teaching. Recipients of this honor receive a Certificate of Recognition and a $1,000 donation check from educational sponsor St. Xavier University.

Special thanks to a Lake Park freshman who submitted the nomination that recognized Darcie for the impact she makes on the school community through "Together Helping Others" -- an annual fundraising campaign that has raised over $30,000 to help Lake Park families in need.  Mark your calendars to watch the feature story on WGN-TV during winter break. The profile will air during the 9:00 p.m. news on  Wednesday, December 27 and again during the midday news from 12 noon to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 28 .

Also this week, West Campus Business Education teacher Marc Tolkson hosted a guest speaker who made a surprise visit in his Management classes. Chicago native Bill Rancic, winner of the first season of "The Apprentice" on NBC, visited Lake Park to talk about his experience on the television show and answer student questions.

Marc uses "The Apprentice" in his Management class as a central learning instrument. When viewing the show, students reflect on strategies including leadership styles, teamwork, time management, problem-solving, motivating co-workers and conflict resolution. Later in the semester, the students work in groups to accomplish Apprentice-style tasks whereby somebody gets to practice their leadership skills and somebody from the group gets fired. Students have been enthusiastic about working together and emulating what they have seen on the TV show. Bill Rancic's surprise visit was truly a memorable highlight from the semester!

Advanced Placement and Elective Options
Sophomores and juniors invited to explore 2018-19 course options.

On Thursday, January 11, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at West Campus, Lake Park will host an informational evening for sophomore and junior students and their parents. This evening is devoted to exploring Advanced Placement course options and the many elective classes that are available for the 2018-19 school year.

As students transition to West Campus, there are often more opportunities in their schedules to explore courses related to college and career interests. The Class of 2019 and the Class of 2020 will be registering for next year's classes in January 2018, and this program will provide students and parents with helpful information prior to the enrollment process.

Teachers and counselors will be available to answer questions and provide tours of the facilities. Please plan to begin the evening by meeting in the West Campus auditorium.
Welcoming the Class of 2022
Orientation event designed for incoming freshman families.

Parents of incoming freshmen in 2018-19 are invited to attend an orientation for families on Wednesday, January 17, 2018. This important evening will include a review of placement information, interpretation of PSAT 8 test results, and an explanation of elective course offerings. Families will also participate in an open house where they will have an opportunity to meet faculty members from each department and visit their classrooms. More information will be sent to families during the first week of January.

View the schedule of start times (based on the school that your student currently attends).

Know Before You Go
Understanding Lake Park's response plans for inclement weather.

As students and faculty leave for winter break, please familiarize yourself with Lake Park's process for making weather-related decisions. Winter months in Chicagoland can prove to be very challenging from snowy conditions to dangerous temperatures and windchills. Arriving at a decision to keep school open, close it, or dismiss early due to inclement weather remains one of the most difficult determinations for any school district.

Because weather forecasts can often be inaccurate - and conditions can quickly change - Lake Park relies on the most up-to-date information, which typically means waiting until the early morning on any given school day. Lake Park does not make decisions in isolation, but rather consults with sender school districts, the bus transportation company and neighboring school districts throughout DuPage County.

The conference calls usually begin at 4:45 a.m. with the elementary and middle schools, followed by the high school and unit districts at 5:00 a.m. This means 5:15 a.m. is the latest a closure decision will be made and notification will begin.

Lake Park only communicates with families if the decision is made to close school; otherwise, normal operations are expected and students should plan for their usual arrival and start times. District communication about weather-related decisions occurs through multiple channels:

* Automated call to all District-registered telephone numbers
* Automated email to all District-registered email addresses
* Emergency notification banner on the  district website
* Tweet via the District's Twitter feed  @LPLancers
* Published status on the  Emergency Closing Center
(includes notifying WGN (720) and WBBM (780) AM radio stations; CBS2; NBC5; WGN9; Fox32; CLTV)
* Courtesy notification to Roselle Police Department

Occasions like weather-related closings are an important reminder to keep contact information as current as possible. Please be sure to provide any updates in the Home Access Center (HAC), so that you may continue to receive communication via the automated notification system.

The safety of students and staff is the primary factor in making these important decisions. The administration understands that families may not always agree with the District, and acknowledges that parents have the ultimate choice to send students to school.
