We had a very exciting visit to campus by Mrs. Zoe Dell Nutter a couple of weeks ago. Mrs. Nutter has been a loyal and generous friend of the arts at Wright State through her annual support of ARTSGALA and now more recently through her establishment of the Zoe Dell Lantis Nutter Dance Scholarship. Mrs. Nutter, who once danced with the San Francisco Ballet, came to watch our dance majors practice and to give them some words of wisdom and encouragement. She also met the first recipient of her scholarship, Jacob Shade. We are so grateful for Mrs. Nutter's investment in our dance majors and their bright futures!
Congratulations to Sean Wilson, Political Science, who received a teaching award from the National Society of Leadership & Success. The group's incoming president nominated Sean after enrolling in his PLS 2000 online course.
This weekend Herb Dregalla
will conduct three Nutcracker performances with the Nebraska Symphony Chamber Orchestra.
This will be his 23rd consecutive year conducting this production, which features live symphonic music and 150 dancers! Herb
has just one day to synchronize the musicians with the dancers, and once the performance starts, he is in control of virtually everything that happens.
Kudos to Herb for representing Wright State so well at this annual celebration.
I'm so impressed with our CoLA Dean's Student Advisory Board. Knowing that this is a busy time of the semester and stressful for everyone, the DSAB created a faculty appreciation activity to give CoLA students an opportunity to thank the professors who have most positively influenced their lives. The DSAB collected notes of gratitude from 90 students for nearly that many different professors from all areas in CoLA, and they personally hand-delivered these notes to faculty offices. It costs nothing but time, and means so much, to recognize and thank the people who impact us the most on our respective journeys.
At tomorrow's commencement, we will celebrate the nearly 1,900 summer and fall students who will graduate and join the ranks as proud Wright State alumni. I hope you will join me in celebrating their achievements and wishing them well as they embark on this next exciting chapter in their lives.
In the last few weeks, I've had several opportunities to talk with President Schrader. I've been impressed with her grasp of the concerns facing Wright State and by her progress toward solutions. She has a remarkable ability to look at problems and fix the structural issues that allowed the problems to happen, and she is a strong supporter of the liberal arts. We will have to continue to squeeze every dollar as we work our way back to financial health, but I am optimistic about our progress.
I wish you a Happy Holiday and relaxing break!
