John 3:1-21
                         Sermon :     "A New Hope "

This Sunday
This Sunday we pause to remember; remember those who have gone before us into that "Great cloud of witnesses."  We remember that each of us who knew them contains a part of them in our memories, our stories, our activities and our lives.  They are very literally a part of us.  We have a tradition in this church to read the names of those to be remembered, to sound a single chime, ask that those who knew them stand, to light a candle in their honor, followed by a brief moment of silence.  There will be one additional candle that will be lit as we say the names of those not listed.  We'll then offer a prayer for all of those we've lost.  It's a powerful service; a meaningful service, particularly as we also celebrate communion.  Please come prepared for a service that is more subdued, quieter and reflective.  We need these times in our lives and this Sunday will most certainly be one of those.

MINISTRY NEWS
CPR/AED Class
Saturday, November 4
Just a reminder to all of you who signed up for the CPR/AED (Automated External Defibrillator) class on Saturday November 4.  The class is  from 9:00am to 11:30am. Please come on time!
Worship Brainstorming Party/Potluck
Saturday, November 4
Have you ever wondered how the planning process for our worship services works? Have you ever wished you could let someone know what works for you in worship? Do you have great suggestions for hymns, songs, prayers, visuals for use in worship, or anything else related to  Sunday  morning (either service)? If so, this party is for you! On  Saturday November 4 , from  12-2pm  we will preview the themes for worship in January and brainstorm some great ideas for the Epiphany Season. The hope is to gather so many ideas that we can't use them all  in one year  so get ready to imagine together. Also, bring a lunch item to share with those who gather. If you have questions, contact Pastor Laura.
Dinner, Common Table &
All Church Conference
November  6
The next Aldersgate Common Table will be on Monday, November 6 in Fellowship Hall.  Come at 6:30pm for a light Church Supper - a bowl of hearty soup and bread!  The meeting will start at 7:00pm. This gathering is for everyone who wants to have a voice in the life of the church.  The staff and core leaders will host this year's church conference.  This will be an official business meeting of the church, where we share information and take care of important decisions related to policy, finance, and organization of our congregation.     Everyone is welcome to attend.  Please sign up (so we make enough food!) on Sunday's attendance form or by contacting the church office.   Free childcare is available if you sign up for it in advance.
Harvest Dinner Help Needed
To make the dinner a big success, we need the help of many volunteers.  On Sunday, we especially need kitchen helpers starting at 4:30pm and food servers starting at 5:15pm.  More people are needed to setup after the second service and clean up after the dinner.  Also more hands are needed to decorate.  If you can help in any of these areas, please sign up on the back of Sunday's attendance form or at the Harvest Dinner table set up in the narthex.  You can also contact Patty Ferguson.  And finally, if you have 12-cup muffin pans we can borrow, please drop them off in the church kitchen before Saturday.
Memorial Service Help Needed
A memorial service will be held in honor of Lane Dreher on Saturday, November 18 at 1:30pm.  Please sign up on the back of the attendance form to donate cookies for the reception that follows.  We also need volunteers to help with setup, serving, and cleanup.  If you can assist with the reception, please sign up on Sunday's attendance form or contact Lea Fox, 425-641-6796, marjedean@q.com.
Worship Service @ 10:00am
Sunday, November 26
There will be only one worship service  at 10:00am on Sunday, November 26 due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
Ushers Needed
There is a need for more ushers for the first service.  Your duties include greeting people, handing out bulletins, lighting candles, collecting the offering, tidying up the sanctuary after the service.  With enough people on the rotating scheduled, you would only usher every 4-6 weeks or so.  If you are interested, please contact David James.
Opportunities to Serve
Please consider using your God given gifts (talents, skills, interests) to serve at Aldersgate.
  •  Are you interested in supporting the church staff? Then join the Staff Parrish Relations Team.
  •  Have a knack for computers and technology?  Then join the Tech Team.
  •  Like to connect with new people?  Then become involved with visitation.
  •  Are you artistic and creative? Then use your talent for marketing and advertising.
  •  We also need a church safety officer.
Pastor Laura and Christian Hampson are interested in identifying gifts in our church community and empowering people to use those gifts to the glory of God.  Check the back of the attendance form for volunteer opportunities that we know of right now where your talents would be valued.  Sign up for any that interest you. If you have questions contact Pastor Laura or Christian
Fall Festival Update
Thank you to everyone who helped make the Fall Festival a huge success!  We had around 175 people from our church, preschool and neighborhood in attendance at our Fall Festival on Friday the 27th.  Games were played, cookies were decorated, hot dogs and chili were eaten and fun was had by all.  The costumes were adorable, fun and some were very creative.  The fall festival was a church wide event with volunteers from Youth Group, @ the Crossroads, YAHs, Deborah Circle and more!  Thank you for coming together to offer a fun night for our community.
Quarterly Statements
Quarterly contribution statements were sent to you by regular mail October 23 and you should have received them by now.  A computer glitch beyond our control prevented us from emailing them to you.  If you have questions about your statement, please contact Wendi in the church office.
Resource Library News
Bob Olson's latest poems have been added to "Aldersgate Poems: Inspired by Junior Church and Sermons," displayed on the library table.  Copies of  Is Revolution Necessary?  and The Light of Jesus  are found on pages 144 and 145, respectively.
