Real estate tycoon Jeff Greene, a Civic Association Director, has the means to do just about anything he wants with his life. He's been approached about running for governor of Florida and, while he hasn't shut the door on that opportunity, Greene told a Palm Beach audience Wednesday there's something else he finds much more fulfilling. One of his greatest pleasures is driving his children each morning to the West Palm Beach school that he and wife Mei Sze Greene opened in 2016 for high-potential students.

Kicks Off Holiday Season

The Palm Beach Civic Association kicked off the holiday season during its Annual Holiday Party in the Circle Dining Room at The Breakers on December 11, 2017.
The festive cocktail reception, which drew 300 members, sponsors and guests, provided an opportunity for supporters of the Civic Association to share some holiday cheer.

Palm Beach Delays Decision on Proposal for Private Club

The Palm Beach Town Council isn't ready to sign off yet on a new private club on South County Road at the entrance to Phipps Plaza. Resident Michael Bickford is hoping to turn landmarked buildings at 264 and 270 S. County Road into a London-style private club called Carriage House, but an incomplete application caused the council to take a pause.

The newly renovated Bradley Park is officially open to the public after a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday, which happened to fall on the date that park namesake Col. E.R. Bradley was born 158 years ago. About 80 people came together in the brisk morning air to see the blue ribbon severed by a giant pair of scissors

Utilities Undergrounding

The Town of Palm Beach engaged Patterson & Dewar Engineers, Inc. to develop an independent, technical peer review of the "Town-Wide Undergrounding of Utilities Master Plan" completed in April 2017 by Kimley-Horn and Associates.  The Civic Association paid $50,000 toward the peer review, which was half of the total cost.

FAA OKs Developer Greene's One West Palm 30-Story Towers

Developer Jeff Greene to city: One West Palm is gonna happen. The last hurdle has been cleared for West Palm Beach's first luxury office tower in years and its accompanying hotel and apartment tower, with a determination Monday by the Federal Aviation Administration that the two 30-story downtown buildings would not interfere with Palm Beach International flights.

As West Palm Grows, City has Ideas to Make Downtown Parking Easier

As much as 20 percent of downtown traffic is caused by cars circling for open parking spaces, according to Deputy City Administrator Scott Kelly. Despite the fact that downtown parking spaces are at a premium, two full floors of the public garage at Clematis Street and Sapodilla Avenue are reserved for cars taken as evidence in criminal cases.

Nothing can take the place of persistence in achieving success, says George Cohon, senior chairman and founder of McDonald's in Canada and Russia.  He should know. It took Mr. Cohon 14 years to ink a deal with the Russian government, allowing him to open the first McDonald's there in 1990.

Michele and Howard Kessler of Palm Beach were major donors to the new Lorikeet Loft, which opened Nov. 24 at the Palm Beach Zoo and Conservation Society in West Palm Beach. She chairs the zoo's board of directors and was the day's keynote speaker. The Lorikeet Loft houses 40 birds.

Erosion Fix Near Breakers in Palm Beach to Cost Someone $3.6 Million
It will cost around $3.6 million to build sand-trapping structures and to modify groins to correct chronic beach erosion reaching from The Breakers southward into the Clarke Avenue and Midtown public beaches, town officials say.

The only passenger cruise ship based at the Port of Palm Beach is slated to begin sailing again to Grand Bahama Island on Saturday, Dec. 23 following a 90-day hurricane relief mission in the U.S. Virgin Islands, company officials said Wednesday.
