Mary Gave God a Body
Advent study led by Dr. Paul Bischoff, Ph.D
9:45 a.m. in Stewart Hall 102-103
God's infant arrival on earth required a woman. The Word became flesh through an unlikely unmarried teenage girl named Mary. This class gets into Luke's Gospel to see Mary's suspicious response to an angel's message transformed to obedience, to listen to her song of God's faithfulness throughout the ages and to reflect and ponder with her the paradoxical, even scandalous, aspects of becoming God's mother.

Volunteer(s) Needed
Do you enjoy seeing the Luminaria that provides a beautiful presence wrapped around our church campus each Christmas Eve? Each year our middle schoolers prepare the 200+ candles for display. We need someone to place and light the luminaria around the church on Christmas eve this year around 4:00 p.m., and then clean up the bags on Christmas day. Are you looking for a way to serve this Christmas?  Please contact the Church Office if you are willing to take on this mini-mission at First Pres,  [email protected].
Year End Giving
Year End is a Perfect Time for Giving
As we approach the end of the calendar year, we are given numerous opportunities to be generous with the financial resources God has entrusted to us. Charitable giving is a way for us to turn our blessings toward generosity. We use the financial resources God has entrusted to us to provide welcome support for others, and it blesses the giver. You can give securely online by going to:
http://www.firstpreswheaton.org/online_giving
All contributions for 2017 must be postmarked or received in the Church Office by midnight on December 31, 2017.

Giving is not limited to cash.  Tax savings can be even greater if you give appreciated assets, such as stocks and bonds.  The IRA Charitable Rollover Contribution continues for those who are age 70½ or older.  If you are in that age bracket, you may make a distribution of up to $100,000 directly from your IRA to the church without being taxed.

Please email Jan Buscher  or call the church office if you are planning on making a non-cash contribution.
As you consider all of the opportunities to give at year-end, making an additional contribution to the ministry, mission and operations of First Presbyterian is an investment in God's work here and around the world.  It will also help us finish the year in a strong financial position and ready to continue God's good work in 2018.
Fearless Generosity
Thank you to all who have submitted a 2018 Giving Card.  If you have not yet completed a 2018 Giving Card, please consider doing so. Having each member's participation is essential for planning ministry and mission at First Pres in 2018, every gift counts. If you would like a card sent to you, please contact the church office at (630) 668-5147.
Giving cards are also at the welcome desk, in the pews and online.

Christmas: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly: An Advent Study for Adults by Richard B. Wilke
In this four-week Advent study (through Dec 30), the author focuses on people in the story of Christ's birth. There are those we associate with the joy and celebration of Christmas-the wise men, the shepherds, and Joseph. Yet the author reminds us not to forget that the evil King Herod is also part of the Christmas story, and how it is because there is evil in our world that we so desperately needed-and  need -a Savior. Each lesson includes a key scripture, brief reflection, questions to discuss, a suggested Christmas carol, and a prayer.
Breakfast starts at 7:00 a.m. next to the kitchen.
Contact [email protected] to be sure we have enough bacon for all.
