Mozart's Requiem paired with Morten Lauridsen's
Lux Aeterna
-- for his first choral program of the season, Kent leads the
Cathedral Choral Society in Washington National Cathedral in a program of "profound serenity," and even participates in the pre-concert talk!

A week later, he is back at the
Church of St. Ignatius Loyola, where he was Music Director for 22 years, for a
recital on the
Mander organ created under his supervision, to help mark the great instrument's 25th anniversary. (

Kent's two New York groups launch their seasons in signature fashion:
Musica Sacra offers its trademark presentations of Bach motets on a rich program with Schütz, Brahms, and Bruckner at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine (
Wednesday, October 25, at 7:30 PM), and the
Oratorio Society of New York opens 2017-18 with two grand choral masterpieces by Brahms,
Ein deutsches Requiem and
Schicksalslied, at Carnegie Hall (
Monday, November 6, at 8 PM). Soprano
Susanna Phillips and baritone
John Chest are the soloists in the Requiem, which OSNY premiered in the U.S. in 1877 (at which time
The New York Times commented, "it is scarcely likely to impress any but students").
And New Yorkers get to hear Kent's Mozart Requiem as well - he leads the splendid students of the
Manhattan School of Music - Chamber Choir, Symphonic Chorus, and Symphony
- in the work at the Upper West Side landmark, Riverside Church. (

It's never too early to make summer plans! Kent will be participating in two summer music festivals in 2018: the new
Mostly Modern Festival, June 4-18 at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY, and the
Amherst Early Music Festival, July 8-14 at Connecticut College in New London, CT.

Don't forget that the
services at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine are open to all: you can hear Kent and the Cathedral Choir at Choral Eucharist on Sundays at 11 AM, joined frequently by the Cathedral Choristers (grades 4-8) and volunteer Cathedral Chorale. And Kent and the choir return for the traditional Anglican service of Evensong at 4 PM.

About Kent Tritle
Kent Tritle is one of America's leading choral conductors. Called "the brightest star in New York's choral music world" by
The New York Times, he is Director of Cathedral Music and Organist at the
Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City; Music Director of the
Oratorio Society of New York, the acclaimed 200-voice volunteer chorus; and Music Director of
Musica Sacra, the longest continuously performing professional chorus in New York City. In addition, Kent is Director of Choral Activities and Chair of the Organ Department at the
Manhattan School of Music and is a member of the graduate faculty of
The Juilliard School. An acclaimed organ virtuoso, he is also the organist of the New York Philharmonic.
