K-State Polytechnic offering new Facebook live experience for prospective students
These days, a large portion of people's lives are lived online, whether it's through email, social media, apps, music or TV and video streaming services. In order to reach prospective students right where they are - physically and virtually - Kansas State Polytechnic has started a new recruiting initiative with Facebook.
The campus's communications and marketing office is launching The Polytechnic Experience Live - a monthly Facebook live event that focuses on a different degree option each time and features a professor and student from that field of study along with an admissions representative. Students interested in attending the Polytechnic Campus can tune in to the live Facebook session and learn more about that specific degree option as well as campus life and how to apply. Those that watch can ask questions in real time, allowing Kansas State Polytechnic to reach students out of town, including in other states.
The first Polytechnic Experience Live will take place on
Thursday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m.
and will highlight the social work degree option with Debra Marseline, instructor and practicum coordinator, and Taylor Eddy, junior in social work, talking about their personal knowledge on and experience with the program. Upward Bound's 'Trick-Or-Treat So Others Can Eat' begins this month
Upward Bound wants to help the hungry this October and needs your participation!
Throughout the entire month, Upward Bound is
hosting "Trick-Or-Treat So Others Can Eat," which gives campus members two opportunities to collect
canned goods and non-perishable items for the Salina
Emergency Aid Food Bank.
The first way to help is donating items from your cupboard or that you've purchased to the Upward Bound office in the Welcome Center by Oct. 31. You can also get involved by joining Upward Bound from 1:30 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21, where the group will go door to door in Salina asking for donations. Volunteers should meet 30 minutes prior to the start of the event in the campus's circle drive, and Halloween costumes are encouraged.

K-State Shred Day:
In coordination with NCSAM, Information Systems on the Polytechnic Campus is sponsoring a Shred Day.
The collection will be Tuesday, October 17 from 8:30 to 11 a.m. between the east and west wings of the Technology Center.
- Paper (including spiral-bound and 3-ring notebooks, books, file folders, etc.) and "light digital media" (CDs, DVDs, SD/CF cards, USB flash drives, etc.) will be accepted during the collection.
- Bags or boxes of documents to be shredded weighing less than 25 pounds each should be delivered to the loading area between Technology Center's east & west wings during the time-frame. Paper and "light digital media" should be packaged separately.
A completed
document disposal form is required. If you need assistance in delivering your documents to the collection point, contact Information Systems at 785-826-2666.

Student Life Center offering students three new sports tournaments
Get ready to get physical and have some fun!
The Student Life Center is offering students the opportunity to participate in three new sports tournaments this fall: ping pong, spikeball and racquetball. On Oct. 11, the SLC is hosting an "introductory night" for those interested in playing spikeball but aren't familiar with the rules or concept. The game night is from 6 to 9 p.m. and free snacks and drinks will be provided. Students can sign up at this time for both the spikeball and ping pong tournaments.
The racquetball tournament is scheduled to start the week of Oct. 23. Registration forms can be found at the front desk of the SLC and need to be returned by Oct. 21. Participation in all three tournaments is free.

Admissions welcomes high school counselors, teachers to campus for student recruitment
Welcome to the Polytechnic Campus!
In an effort to continue raising awareness of Kansas State Polytechnic and its offerings, the admissions office hosted 14 Kansas high school counselors and teachers on Oct. 6 for Counselor Connection Day.
Attendees were introduced to Dr. Christopher Smith, newly hired director of enrollment management and marketing, and learned about the degree options by taking part in breakout sessions. During lunch, they listened to Dr. Tara Harl, associate professor and option coordinator of airport management, speak about workforce challenges in aviation and how the airport management curriculum is addressing them.

High-five flight team members for your community outreach!
I want to recognize Zach Smith and Jake Mitchell, members of the campus's flight team, for attending "Hero Day" at Meadowlark Ridge Elementary School. They spoke to the children about aviation while walking with them during their daily exercise.
This is such a great example of community outreach. It is important that the Polytechnic Campus connects with neighbors and demonstrates support for local groups, businesses and residents. Engagement is key and I appreciate these two students helping to spread our Wildcat pride in Salina.

2. VETERANS - VFW's Sport Clips Help a Hero Scholarship is a $5,000 scholarship. DEADLINE:

Loan Repayment Option for Graduating Students
The state of Kansas is offering up to $15,000 in student loan repayment and up to a 5 year state tax waiver for graduates who establish residency in one of the 77 Kansas counties designated as a rural opportunity zone. For more information, visit the link below:
Employee Tuition Assistance and Spouse/Dependent Grant
1. Employee Tuition Assistance
Award amount is for tuition only in a K-State course for up to 3 credit hours per term.
The maximum award amount will not exceed the value of 3 hours at the in-state Manhattan/Salina tuition rate (ie. campus fees, other institutional fees, etc. are the responsibility of the employee).

Spouse/Dependent Grants (Only REGULAR employees are eligible. If you are unsure if you are REGULAR or TERM, check your contract or with the HR office.)
For Dependents or Spouses that are enrolled full time in a degree terminating undergraduate program, the award will be the equivalent of the regular, resident on-campus tuition rate for 7 undergraduate course credits, where full-time for an undergraduate is defined as at least 12 enrolled credit hours per regular fall/spring term.
For Spouses that are enrolled part-time in a degree terminating undergraduate program the maximum award will be the equivalent of the regular, resident on-campus tuition rate for 3 undergraduate course credits, where part-time for an undergraduate is defined as less than 12 enrolled credit hours per regular fall/spring term. (Enrollment of less than 3 credit hours, will result in the proration of the award i.e. 2 credit hours enrolled = the equivalent of the regular, resident on-campus tuition rate for 2 credit hours - or - 1 credit hour enrolled = the equivalent of the regular, resident on-campus tuition rate for 1 credit hour. )
Dependents that are enrolled less than full-time in an undergraduate program are not eligible for the K-State Dependent/Spouse Grant.
For Dependents or Spouses that are enrolled in a degree terminating graduate or veterinary medicine program the maximum award will be the equivalent of the regular, resident on-campus tuition rate for 3 course credit hours as indicated by the student's degree program, graduate or veterinary medicine.
