2017 THANKSGIVING DINNER A BIG SUCCESS
For almost fifty years our FCC congregation has hosted a Thanksgiving Feast for our church members, their extended families and friends on the Sunday prior to the Thanksgiving holiday. The event gives everyone a chance to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal and spend relaxed time together. The event would not have been possible without all the great food that was prepared and donated by all who attended and without the help of many volunteers. Ken Biery, who co-chaired the event for about twenty-five years, retired this year and was thanked by Rev. Marlene Pomeroy during the worship service.
After our worship we had coffee time in our east parlor and had an opportunity to shop for gifts from our mission partner Aid Africa, as well as being able to purchase Fair Trade coffee, tea or chocolates. Thanks to Irene Keller and Elizabeth Lanski for setting up and running these tables. Then about 120 persons gathered at dining tables before the bountiful Thanksgiving Feast. After the meal Judi Tyler did an after-dinner craft for about 20 children, which allowed their parents to continue to visit at their tables.
Thanks to our custodians for moving furniture, putting up tables and chairs and helping in the kitchen. Tandy, Adi and Griselda were an amazing help, doing preparations, helping during the meal and doing hours of kitchen clean up.
Thanks to those volunteers who came for two hours to set tables and decorate on the Saturday afternoon before the dinner: Elizabeth Lanski, Varnell Lewis, Irene Keller, Nina Kung, Andy Speakman, Anastacia Stewart, Kim Story, and Roberta White. Table decorations from her garden were provided by Irene Keller and Alice Smith donated the other thanksgiving decorative items.
Varnell Lewis
and Ron White accepted the food as it arrived that morning.
What would a Thanksgiving Dinner be without turkey? We are thankful for five turkey cookers: Peter Keller, Leo Lynch, Dana Pell, Steve Philipson and Bob Rinck and the turkey carvers: Eugene Carbajal, Anthony Kung, Philip Kung, Leo Lynch, and Moises Torres. John Johnson was in charge of the turkey carving room and getting the platters of turkey out to the serving tables. We also thank those who helped get the food ready to serve: Nina Kung, Varnell Lewis, Dana Pell, Kim Story, and Meagan VanDeventer.
Those who stayed to clean up, fold tables & chairs and put things away were really appreciated including: Sandy Biehler, Mary Camacho, Nina Kung, Carol Lisek, Dana Pell, Kim Story, and Bettie Teel. - Roberta White, Event Chair
