I'm Busy!

A Note From Pastor Linda

For everything there is a season, a time for every matter under heaven...
Ecclesiastes 3

"Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest."
~Jesus from Matthew 11

Dear Friends,

We are all busy.
Between professional and personal commitments, domestic duties, and childrearing (if you have children), the hours fill up fast. Additionally, it's easy to fill whatever spare time we do happen upon with the minutiae of everyday life- not to mention Facebook, Netflix and other social media and television outlets.
The busier you are, the more you need to build in time for rest and rejuvenation. Without committing to time for yourself, you will find a way to fill your time with busy work and stray tasks. Do this for too long, and you will burnout. It's inevitable. (I know- because it has happened to me!)
Here are three simple suggestions (in-activities) to prevent burnout:
1. Go for a walk
The beautiful thing about walking is that you can do it casually, on a whim, wearing heels, or all-out with a Camelback and hiking boots. Which means that you can fit it into your schedule whenever you have 10-20 minutes, wherever you are. You can even choose to park across the parking lot and walk or take the stairs rather than the elevator- pause between floors to ponder!
2. Eat a proper meal
Think about the last time you ate. Did you grab a bite to eat- or prepare a meal? Did you eat at your desk? While reading? Scrolling Facebook or watching Netflix? Give yourself the gift of a proper nutrious meal. Allow 30 minutes to this venture and use a proper place setting and silverware- maybe light a candle. Then, dine.
3. Sound of Silence
Set a timer and sit in SILENCE for 3 minutes... and then increase this time as you become more comfortable with the silence. Maybe that time is while waiting to pick up kids, or before an appointment, or before bed! Try it... and see who you might hear in the silence.
Many of you know that I do YOGA as my in-activity. It is a TIME for ME to clear my head and re-connect my body to my mind to my spirit. It is a life-giving time for me- essential!
Now - GET BUSY!
 ~Pastor Linda

Informational Meeting: Thursday, October 12, 2017

We would like to invite you to learn more about being a General Renovation Volunteer on Thursday, October 12 from 7-8:30pm in the lower level of St. Genevieve Church.

Volunteers can commit to a one-time volunteer opportunity or sign-up for as many shifts as your schedule allows. We will share the renovation schedule as well as sign-up information at this meeting. Representatives from FLAMF (Forest Lake Area Mission for Families), the St. Andrew's Community Resource Center, and St. Gen's will be there to present the volunteer opportunities and answer any questions you may have.

General renovation volunteers do not need to have construction experience and must be willing to get a little dirty ;-)  We will train and equip you with the necessary tools to complete your supervised task.

We hope you will consider putting your faith into action by participating as a General Renovation Volunteer -- your time and talents will give help and hope to our neighbors who are in need of emergency shelter.

If you have questions please feel free to contact Liz Schreier, St. Andrew's Lutheran Church at [email protected].

A special thank you to the efforts of many members in our community and this congregation who have worked diligently and faithfully to make this a reality. Please plan to be a part of our volunteer opportunities as together we answer God's call to love one another.

Woodbury Chorus and Orchestra will be performing at Hosanna Lutheran Church on November 12, 2017 at 4pm in the Great Hall. WCO is an arts organization that is unique in the Twin Cities. Each member is a volunteer, including the directors, and each is dedicated to helping those in need. Their primary mission is to contribute to food shelves in the areas where they perform, through proceeds of freewill offerings taken at their concerts. Members also enjoy sharing great music with their audiences, and most of them have had extensive experience in school, community and church musical groups. Proceeds of the freewill offerings taken at concerts are donated to charity, primarily food shelf programs. Since 1985, WCO has received more than $495,500 in offerings at their concerts, which is enough money to buy over 2,495,500 meals. The group has raised funds for flood relief and several hospices, in addition to food shelves.

Chapter 3 Retreat
November 18, 2017

Perhaps you've finished building your career... Maybe you've recently retired or just beginning to think about it... Or the children you've raised have left or are beginning to leave the nest. Each of these scenarios, and many more, represents a transitional and potentially transformational period in life, the turning of a page, the beginning of a NEW chapter in life- the 3
rd Chapter. It is a time that you might find yourself asking, "What's next?". This period offers both opportunity and challenges. It is a time to renew and refocus.
Join others as we explore what this time means in God's time.

DATE: November 18, 2017
LOCATION: Hosanna Lutheran Church
COST: $20 (Includes session, lunch and snacks)
