Did Somebody Say "Shopping?"
The first-ever Small Business Saturday, launched by
American Express, took place on November 27, 2010. It was a day dedicated to helping small businesses get more people through their doors on the Saturday after Thanksgiving and encouraging people across the country to support small, local businesses.
In 2016, an estimated 112 million consumers reported shopping at small businesses on Small Business Saturday, marking a 13 percent increase from 2015.
As the daughter of a small town store owner, I'm fiercely supportive of Small Business Saturday. In fact, with the dozens of local shops, spas, tasting rooms and restaurants in Downtown Santa Barbara, I'd venture to say this day was invented with our downtown community in mind.
We're hosting Holiday Horns (900 State, 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm) for rousing brass Christmas music, and we'll have balloons and giveaways - come join us for
Small Business Saturday, November 25th!

Halloween Window Decor Winners
The Downtown Santa Barbara Decor Committee fought with the tenacity of zombies to narrow the field down to the top three decorated locations, adding categories to showcase the amazingly terrifying window displays on (and off) State Street.

1st Place, Haunted Hall of Fame to Reicker, Pfau, Pyle & McRoy LLP (1421 State): Trust us...go look. The guys and "ghouls" of this top-of-the-district law firm went all out. Around corners, up the stairs, perched at the receptionist's desk and festooned all around the offices, you'll see all sorts of effects, frights, goblins and lots of cobwebs. Well worth the trip up State Street!
2nd Place, Dark Magic Award to Occhiali (7 W. Canon Perdido): Sporting cool shades, this witchy trio is all about the "Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn and caldron bubble."
3rd Place, Scariest Award: James Joyce
(513 State): You dare slip past the horror-crowded window only to find yourself in a spooky crematorium/bar!
Don't Look Under the Bed Award to Sanford Winery Tasting Room (1114 State #26): The whimsical, colorful hand-created monsters filling the tasting room's huge window look innocent enough, until you find them tucked beneath your bed some night...
All Hallow's Eve Ball Award to Renaissance Consignment (1118 State) Dressed in Halloween finery, the (headless, of course) window models vie for the attention of the fellow perched in the black throne, all skull and bones.
Ghost Award: The Red Piano (519 State) - This award is presented to a business that slips under the door (like a ghost) by not officially signing up for the contest, but the judges were drawn like a fly to a web by the gigantic spider perched atop the red piano above the front door, glowing eyes and all.

Bar 29 (1134 Chapala) presents original photography by Ben Pecorari. Born and raised in Santa Barbara where his passion for photography began, Ben toured the country with his band, capturing the candid and poignant moments of life and music on the road.

Enjoy local wine, hors d'oeuvres, and live jazz music performed by Tom Etchart & Friends at Christ Presbyterian Church (36 E. Victoria). On exhibit "Sacred Streets," a collection of portraits of people living on L.A.'s Skid Row by artist Jason Leith.

Peoples' Self-Help Housing is a national award-winning non-profit organization that creates affordable housing and self-sufficiency programs on California's Central Coast -- San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura Counties.
The Holiday Toy Parade (formerly Stuff the Bus) continues the joyous tradition of providing gifts for children living at People's Self-Help Housing properties in Santa Barbara and Goleta. On December 13th, PSSH staff will celebrate the generosity of the community with a State Street Parade, an MTD Holiday Shuttle and the ever-popular Gift Wrapping Party.
