Health Canada Consultation on Cannabis Regulation
Health Canada has released a consultation paper on the proposed approach to non-medical cannabis regulation. This follows the April 2017 introduction of Bill C-45, the Cannabis Act. Stakeholders, including local governments, are encouraged to provide feedback to the consultation paper by January 20, 2018.

Asbestos Consultation Underway
Asbestos is the number-one killer of workers in B.C. and the rate of asbestos-related disease is on the rise. The B.C. government is leading a working group to consult and examine what additional actions can be taken to ensure that British Columbians and the environment are adequately protected from the dangers of asbestos. The working group is seeking feedback, formal or informal, from local governments and other affected parties. Read More

West Vancouver Student Video Contest Recognized
A student video contest initiated by the District of West Vancouver was one of this year's winners of a Community Excellence Award. The District challenged students from kindergarten to grade 12 to create a brief video on a topic provided by the municipality for a chance to win up to $750.

To mark November 22 as National Housing Day, Us and Them, a documentary on homelessness and addiction, will be available for streaming for 48 hours. Filmmaker Krista Loughton is providing this opportunity in hope that more elected officials and decision makers will be inspired by the film.
