Legendary mountaineer Fred Beckey has passed away

R.I.P. Fred Beckey

1923 - 2017

We have some sad news to share with you.

Fred Beckey passed away peacefully on Monday, October 30 at the age of 94.

Fred was a true American icon. His legacy is profound, and he has inspired countless people to explore this amazing planet. We are honored to have known Fred, and our memories with him will live on forever.

The news of Fred's passing has already created a massive outpouring of condolences, stories and memories from people whose lives were influenced by his extraordinary accomplishments, poetic books and pioneering lifestyle.

It was an honor for us to spend so much time with Fred over the years and produce the documentary on his exceptional life. We are so happy that Fred was able to attend the premiere screenings at Mountainfilm in Telluride in May and at the Seattle International Film Festival in June. It was amazing to feel the energy in these theaters and observe Fred receiving long standing ovations. We will all miss him very much.

Screening Tour and
Distribution Update

We are currently in the midst of taking DIRTBAG: THE LEGEND OF FRED BECKEY on a worldwide screening tour, bringing his inspiring life story to as many new audiences as possible. Between film festivals and select community screenings, this tour is the only way to see the documentary for now.

DIRTBAG recently won the Grand Prize at EHO Mountain Film Festival in Macedonia and received a Special Jury Mention at Tegernsee International Mountain Film Festival in Germany!

We're adding new screenings every week, so check back on our Tour page frequently for updates as more cities become confirmed.

If you would like to lead the effort to bring a screening to a venue near you, please complete our DIRTBAG Screening Survey.

We are now working to finalize plans with distributors to release the film on all available media platforms targeting Spring 2018.
