Volume 7, Issue #47 - November 22, 2017

In the name of Christ, we embrace all people to be nourished and empowered by the Holy Spirit to love and serve the world.
Come with me, and I will make you fishers of men.
This Sunday our preacher will be Brother Jeff Butcher, President of the Brotherhood of Saint Andrew - see http://www.brothersandrew.net/ . B rother Butcher will also be with us for the Preacher's Forum, Coffee Hour and beyond for conversation.

The Brotherhood of Saint Andrew is a world-wide ministry for men and boys that is Service oriented; it is informed and sustained through individual and corporate Prayer and Study. The Brotherhood has stayed very current with the needs and concerns of the church, and now has special emphasis on ministry for veterans and Boy Scouts.

The Brotherhood's core principals are Prayer, Study, and Service, with seven primary missions flowing from those principals: Discipleship and Mentoring; Veteran Friendly Congregational Initiatives; Boy Scouts of America; Restorative Justice; Racial Reconcilia tion and Healing; Social Justice; and Addictions.

In 1893, only ten years after the founding of the Brotherhood, Ascension established one of its earlier chapters. Somewhere along the line, our chapter went dormant. (As an aside, I suspect that our current Men's Club probably evolved from our 19th Century Brotherhood chapter.) At a critical point in my life, while I was still serving in the Army, I was a Brother-at-large for a number of years. The discipline of the Brotherhood's rule of life helped me in my discernment along the way towards my call to Holy Orders.

Just as we have a goodly number of people drawn to contemplative nature of our Benedictine Cell and the intercessory ministry of the Daughters of the King (DOK), I believe that several of our men and boys would find that a Brotherhood chapter will enrich your spiritual lives. I also strongly believe that a resurrected and active chapter would help us to lead others to Ascension to grow and strengthen it.

I hope you will prayerfully consider being a part of this renewal. I ask that you pray about this invitation and that you talk with me about it.

-Jessee+
