Purcell Marian is in its first year of a school self-study, and we are
eager to hear from you about how we're doing. We are looking for feedback on this school year so far. The online survey will open up Monday, October 9th and will close on October 13th. For the best results, we need as many of you as possible to give us your feedback. The survey should take about 15 minutes, and we will have laptops available at the front desk if you prefer to come and complete it at school.  Questions?  Contact Hannah Knox at 513.751.1230 x129 or [email protected].

Advanced Pre-Calculus Catapults to New Heights!

Miss Anderson's Advanced PreCalculus students modeled projectile motion using quadratic equations. Students built catapults out of wooden sticks, rubber bands, hot glue and tape. The goal was to create a catapult that couldlaunch a cap the furthest distance using the vertical displacement equation as in physics to model the height of the cap over time.

Grade Level Homework Policies

The administration of Purcell Marian has met with our grade level teachers to create homework policies that not only hold our students accountable for completing their homework on time, but provide consistency among grade level classes. Below are the homework policies for each grade level.

Freshman:
If a student does not have a homework assignment on the due date they will be issued a homework detention to be served the following day during 4th bell lunch. Students can turn in their homework at the homework detention for full credit. If a student fails to turn in their homework at the conclusion of the lunch detention they will receive a zero. Students will be given written notification of the homework detention when it is assigned.

Sophomore:
If a student does not have the homework assignment on the due date they are given 2 days to turn it in in order to receive half credit. Anything after 2 days is a zero. Any repeat offenders can be assigned a lunch homework detention.

Juniors:
If a student does not have the homework assignment on the due date, they have 24 hours to turn in the assignment for half credit. Anything after that is a zero.

Seniors:
If a student does not have the homework assignment on the due date, they have until the end of the day to turn it in in order to receive half credit. Anything after that will be a zero.

All Students:
Students who are absent from a class will have time to make up the work in accordance with our student handbook. Page 109 of the student handbook states ," any student who is absent must meet with each teacher within 3 days of his/her return to school to determine what work was missed and when the work must be submitted in order to obtain credit for it".

Tardy Policy Reminder

We want your student here every day and on time to make The Castle the best place it can be.

Students are given five unexcused tardies per year without disciplinary action. Anything above five tardies in one school year will result in disciplinary action, see below:
  • Six or more tardies, the student will serve detention during 1st bell. The student will be responsible to make up any worked missed.
  • Ten or more tardies, the student will serve three days of detention over Christmas break from 7:45am-11:30am, dates to be determined
    • If the student fails to report for these detentions they will be asked to leave Purcell Marian
  • Any student who reaches 15 unexcused tardies for the school year will be asked to leave Purcell Marian
Tardies to class will be handled individually by each teacher and are listed as a minor infraction. Habitual or excessive tardiness to class may be referred to the Director of Student Life and will be treated as a serious infraction. Students must be in each class before the bell rings. Any student not inside the classroom before the bell rings will be considered tardy.

Parents -- We Need YOU!

Purcell Marian High School is preparing our students for entry into careers or colleges. In an effort to make our students more responsible, please help us make our students the best they can be.

  • If your student has an appointment, please send them with a note to excuse them from class. Your student will receive an Early Dismissal Pass that then they will be able to show their teacher in order to be excused from class.
  • Please realize that students will not be called out of classes to come to the Main Office.
  • No money can be left for students at the Main Office. We cannot be responsible for delivering money to students on a daily basis.
Please help your student prepare nightly for the next school day. Please make sure your student is prepared for the school day, with a packed lunch or money and all of their school work.

We truly appreciate partnering with our families to make our students as successful as they can be.
