DEALS

Mobike and Ofo investors are in talks to merge these two key rivals in China's highly competitive bike-sharing market. Ofo has Alibaba and ZhenFund as backers while Mobike claims Tencent and Sequoia. A deal would follow the merger trend of China's leaders in car-hailing services.

Tencent  has invested $15 million in AI medical startup VoxelCloud in LA. The deal was led by Tencent's Phil Mu. This U.S.-China startup is using AI for automated medical imaging analysis to detect diseases.

FUNDS

Neil Shen, Sequoia
Sequoia Capital China has raised $50 million for a China-focused venture capital fund from some 80-plus LPs. Still $500 million more to go for the firm that has back numerous Chinese tech titans.
This may explain why Sequoia star investor  Neil Shen was in Silicon Valley this past week and made a surprise stop at the China conference HYSTA.

Vertex Ventures has raised a $210 million fund focused on Southeast Asia and India. It's a 3rd regional fund for the VC arm of Singapore's Temasek, which has made early bets on tech startup successes such as ride-hailing service Grab

  INDIA / SOUTHEAST ASIA

E-commerce marketplace for used goods, Zefo, has drawn a $12 million investment led by Sequoia Capital India with Helion Ventures

Indonesia is shaping up as Asia's next frontier for startups as big league investors look for tomorrow's stars here. Already this year, $3 billion has been poured into Indonesian startups, far out-topping the $630 million in 2016.
