Last month, LISC DC staff traveled to Providence, Rhode Island to join our LISC East Coast colleagues for a regional meeting.
We discussed local program and policy goals, including LISC's focus on supporting economic growth and job creation, strategic housing initiatives that lead to more units of affordable housing developed and preserved, and enhancing the capacity of nonproft partners to achieve greater impact in the community.
We participated in a neighborhood tour of some of LISC Rhode Island's projects, including a former mill that was converted into six apartments that are rented to teachers, artists, etc. in exchange for 16 hours of work per week with the community. The space also includes a youth learning center and community meeting space. We had fun shooting some hoops with the youth!
