Amazon to the Pawtucket Central Falls Train Station District?
Pawtucket Mayor Grebien and Central Falls Mayor Diossa answer state's call by offering an ideal location in Rhode Island

Pawtucket Mayor Donald R. Grebien and Central Falls Mayor James A. Diossa announced that their communities stand prepared to host Amazon's second headquarters within the Pawtucket Central Falls Train Station District, and are ready to answer the State of Rhode Island's request for input on possible locations for a bid. The Pawtucket Central Falls Train Station District presents a unique opportunity with the arrival of a commuter rail station and transit hub in 2020 and over 50 acres of available development, with a grand total of 160 acres, 2 million square feet of unique, historic mill buildings.

The train station district is located in the heart of the Northeast corridor with proximity to Boston, New York City, and Washington DC, giving Amazon close proximity to quality, affordable inland and coastal communities, some of the best institutions of higher learning, two international airports, access to Interstate 95 with four exit/on ramps, an arts community, a network of bicycle paths, riverfront access and recreational amenities.

Mayor Grebien said "Our two cities are always working together to position our communities for the future. This is where innovation began with the Industrial Revolution. We stand together, ready to hit the ground running to welcome another industry game-changer, Amazon, and tens of thousands of jobs to our Train Station District."

Supporting the fight against cancer

During the month of October, the Pawtucket Police Department is participating in the Pink Patch Project to increase awareness about the benefits of early detection and intervention in the fight against breast cancer and funding research for a cure.  All members of the Pawtucket Police Department are wearing a pink version of their current shoulder patch throughout the month of October, and all proceeds from purchasing the patches will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. If you would like to donate, please contact the Pawtucket Fraternal Order of Police at: [email protected].

Mayor Diossa of Central Falls, Mayor Murray of Cumberland and Smithfield Town Administrator Randy Rossi also participated.
The Ballpark at Slater Mill
Downtown riverfront ballpark is key to revitalization

After decades of planning, work, and private and public investment so many of the pieces are coming into place for the economic rebirth of downtown Pawtucket.

The linchpin project of Pawtucket's economic revitalization strategy is the relocation of the Pawtucket Red Sox's to the entrance of the City's historic downtown, on the river's edge, prominently visible from Route 95.

The Ballpark at Slater Mill is not just about baseball; it is about adding the critical missing piece in the puzzle to unlock the potential of downtown Pawtucket. This project will be more than a stadium; it will create a place that can serve as the civic hub for Pawtucket and beyond at no additional cost to taxpayers.  The Ball Park at Slater Mill will host concerts, festivals and community events that will generate activity for nearby downtown businesses. New development will be spurred by the presence of a lively, attractive destination in the heart of the city.

The Senate Finance Committee has held three hearings on the ballpark proposal with additional ones being held throughout October. At their last hearing , the Committee examined the economic model, Pawtucket's options for mitigating their risk, and heard from the International Baseball League. The House Finance committee is also holding two hearings on the proposal.
