Sustaining Spiritual Well-Being: Retaining and Changing Practices, Rituals, and (for Professionals)

Keeping our spirits strong and healthy should be part of every care plan. Creating opportunities for ourselves and others can prove challenging when many people in our life are not aware of dementia and its symptoms. In order to sustain many faith practices and keep our faith communities as part of life, awareness and knowledge will be essential. This session will provide the basic concepts to help faith communities provide support for people living with dementia and their supporters in real and substantial ways.

Objectives:

  • Review some of the common challenges the faith community and those experiencing dementia in their lives face as the condition progresses
  • Compare the idea of being friendly versus being competent and skillful in supporting the person living with dementia and their family
  • Explore possible ways in which the faith community can begin to explore options for support.
