Apple Valley Airshow: October 14

This year marks the 16
th
Annual Apple Valley Airshow to be held on Saturday, October 14th at 9:00am.
This year’s airshow is lining up to be the most exciting show yet, with performances by the Red Eagles Aerobatic Formation Team, Tony Higa, Anthony Oshinuga, John Collver, Tim Just, Rob Harrison and making his debut appearance at our show is Chuck Coleman. Also performing again are favorites such as Rich Piccirilli, the Just In Time Skydivers, West Coast Ravens, and Military Warbirds.
Additionally, there will be a Kid Zone, food and vendors, as well as military vehicles on display in addition to
the "Show & Shine" car show
. Feel free to bring your chairs, sitting blankets and even your personal umbrella for shade and don’t forget your hats, sunscreen and sunglasses!
Admission is $5, children 11 and under are free, and parking is free. A portion of the proceeds from the airshow will provide scholarships to local students in the STEM field.

Tenant Improvements
The following is a letter from San Bernardino County Real Estate Services Department’s Steven Mintle regarding airport tenant improvements, dated September 7, 2017:
"Tenant improvements are encouraged throughout the Department of Airports. The following information is the process that each tenant must adhere to prior to starting any type of improvement, small or large. Improvements that do not require a permit from the local jurisdiction still require prior approval from COUNTY/AIRPORTS prior to the commencement of work. This directly applies to buildings and hangars; please don’t get started and then have to stop mid-project, coordination with a Department Airport Manager is essential and we want to ensure you will not violate or potentially default on your lease. In fact, we strongly recommend that when you have an idea, you reach out via email or in-person to discuss the proposed improvement before starting.
All leases include language that clearly outlines how a tenant may alter, improve or modify the existing buildings and improvements they occupy. This is provided that the proposed improvements are approved in writing by COUNTY/AIRPORTS and any and all applicable permits are obtained by you, the tenant, from the local permitting authority prior to start of any work.
There are also specific requirements stated in your lease about how improvements are to be completed and the regulations that must be followed. You must notify the Airport Manager not less than ten (10) days’ prior to the beginning of any work in, on or about the Premises so that COUNTY, at COUNTY’S option, may post a Notice of Non Responsibility as provided by law. All work needs to be completed as it was approved and shall be completed by duly a licensed and insured contractor(s). The department has the right to find a contractor unacceptable and all contracted employees must follow the airport rules and policies for accessing the facility. It is the responsibility of the contractor you hire to follow the appropriate and applicable public bidding procedure or requirements for the paying workers prevailing wage.

Please help us extend a warm welcome to Maureen Snelgrove who has joined our family at the Department of Airports as the Assistant Director.
Ms. Snelgrove was previously with
our county Regional Parks Department where she worked since 1998. Over the past 11 years she was the Deputy Directory and twice was appointed to lead the department as Interim Director. During her tenure at Regional Parks, Ms. Snelgrove actively served on the Board of the National Association of County Park and Recreation Officials, the California Regional Park and Open Space Administrators, and served as the Second Year Curriculum Chair for the National Executive Development School under the National Recreation and Park Association. Ms. Snelgrove holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Master of Science degree. As Assistant Director with the Department of Airports, Ms. Snelgrove will be principally responsible for the Administrative and Finance functions within our department

CNO Fire Support in Canyon Fire

We were glad to be able to contribute to the efforts in battling the Canyon Fire.
Pictured here is air support arriving at Chino Airport for fuel before heading back to continue assisting in the Canyon Fire.
According to an
article
in the Press Enterprise, at its peak air support included 20 helicopters and air tankers. As of September 28, only two helicopters were being utilized with full containment expected on Sunday, October 1.
