It's been several years since we last featured Julie Zarate  in an exhibition of her work at ChimMaya. Her popularity has grown steadily over the years, and her artwork is included in numerous venues/galleries
throughout the United States, and collected globally.
With the recent events in Houston, where she lives....we were unsure if this scheduled exhibition would take place.
As a ChimMaya Resident Artist , Julie's artwork continues to be a mainstay in our gallery. We're pleased that she is our featured artist in October and excited that she is making the trip from Texas, and will be in attendance for the Opening Reception!

The art that Julie Zarate creates, is an amalgam of influences from old masters to several of her contemporaries. It covers an array of genres and styles, which ultimately fuses them to create something contemporary and iconic, yet timeless and infinitely familiar.
Julie's early years were shaped by popular culture and the empowerment of women, subjects that have been a consistent inspiration for her artwork. However, she is more interested in the journey, and new discoveries of creating a new piece of work, than in the finished product. This is usually how Julie discovers something new, either in the execution, or in the medium used.  As her work continues to evolve, the nuance of taking risks, and the sheer desire to create, is ever present.
Julie was born in Houston, TX,  in 1970 where she currently lives and works. She attended San Jacinto Community College and the Glassell School of Art at the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston.  She has had solo exhibitions in Los Angeles and several galleries in Houston.  Her work has been featured in numerous publications online, in print, and on video.  She is also one of the founders of the art group, Las Chingonas.
