Parrish and Taylor Selected as
Mr. and Miss PACS 2017  
Homecoming at Prince Avenue Christian School is unique and special in many ways, but one of the most significant aspects is the criteria by which homecoming representatives are chosen by their peers. Students are asked to consider those who exemplify Christ-like character, specifically the characteristics listed in Galatians 5:22-23 often referred to as the "Fruits of the Spirit".

This year, students selected Daniel Parrish and Emma Taylor as Mr. and Miss PACS 2017.
Academics
Weaver and Wells Recognized by
National Merit Scholarship Program  
Two students in the Prince Avenue Christian School Class of 2018 were recently recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program for their outstanding performance on the October 2016 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Emily Weaver was named a Semifinalist, and Luke Wells was named a Commended Student.
Classroom News
Rotary Club Brings Dictionaries
to 3rd Grade Classes
PACS 3rd grade students recently received a visit from the Rotary Club in which the students were given dictionaries. Rotary Club members also discussed the Rotary Club's work in helping to eliminate Polio.
Prince Parent Helps Lead Owl Pellet Dissection
for 3rd Grade Class
Prince parent Amy Shiver assisted Mrs. Zeagler's 3rd grade class in an owl pellet dissection lab in which students learned about the eating habits and food chain of birds of prey.
Brandon Ware Guest Lecturer
for AP Biology Classes
Students in Mrs. Owens’s AP Biology class enjoyed a guest lecture from Brandon Ware. Brandon is the son of former Prince teacher Teri Ware and is currently working on his Ph.D. in cancer biology at Emory University. 
PACS Interact Club Supports Soldiers
with "Big Thank You" Campaign

The Prince Avenue Christian School Interact Club recently sponsored "The Big Thank You” campaign in which students in all grade levels had the opportunity to write letters to United States soldiers stationed overseas during the holidays.

PACS students wrote heartfelt handwritten letters to troops who will be away from friends and family during Thanksgiving and Christmas. In years past, some of the soldiers have written back and expressed appreciation for the support and encouragement. This year the Interact Club collected and mailed 457 letters. 
PACS Interact Club Raises Money
for Extra Special People
Senior Interact Club members Maria Johnston, Miriam Megdal,
Caroline Hill, and Millie Bryant
The Prince Avenue Interact Club participated in a hay bale painting contest sponsored by Striplings to benefit Extra Special People in Watkinsville. Votes cost $1 and were cast by the community throughout the month of October. The PACS hay bale won second place, and the proceeds were donated to ESP.
Fine Arts
Cast of Still Life with Iris Places Third
in Region One Act Competition
The Prince Avenue Christian School high school Fine Arts Department recently placed third in the Georgia High School Association Region 8 One Act Competition with their production of  Still Life with Iris . Additionally, senior Mary Grace Palmer and junior Abby Frost were selected as All-Star cast members. This marks the first time in the program’s history that PACS Fine Arts has placed in region competition. 
PACS Band Students Chosen for
Tri-State Honor Band
Three Prince Avenue Christian School middle school band members have been selected to participate in the Tri-State Middle School Honor Band at Young Harris College. Jake Hathaway – alto sax, Brock McDonald – euphonium, and Ethan Thomas – trombone will rehearse and perform with the honor band on Saturday, November 4 th .  
Athletics
Middle School Cross Country Team
Has Successful Season
The Middle School Cross Country team had a very successful 2017 season. Out of 8 races this year, the girls finished in the top 5 teams in all but one. The boys also competed well but saw great individual performances from Luke Nesbit and Sage Milner. In addition, the 5 th graders that ran on the middle school team successfully competed against many 6 th – 8 th grade runners.  
Lil' Wolverines Running Club
Completes First Season
The newly established Lil’ Wolvervines Running Club had a great first season. Runners prepared to take part in cross country races in the Northeast Georgia Youth Running League. Coach Michael Palmer explained that the new club had 23 runners that participated and did very well in the races and improved their overall health. “We saw 100% improvement on all runners’ times over the course of the two month season which required two miles runs at practice every Wednesday as well as running a 3k (1.86 miles) every Saturday in the league races.” The team had runners place in the top 10 in different age groups many times throughout the season. 
Lady Wolverines Compete in Elite Eight
in State Private 1A State Tournament
The Lady Wolverines advanced to the Elite Eight after 9-1 and 13-5 wins over Savannah Christian in the second round of the GHSA Softball Private State Tournament.

At the tournament, the Lady Wolverines won an exciting 7-6 comeback victory over George Walton, but fell to Wesleyan in the next round of play and then to First Presbyterian Day to bring their very successful season to a close.

5th & 6th Grade Football Team
Wins 2nd Place in the League
The PACS 5th-6th grade football team placed 2nd in the league after a hard fought championship game vs. North Oconee (22-16). Way to go Wolverines!
Kelley Nominated for Positive Athlete Georgia
Prince Avenue Varsity Soccer and Cross Country athlete Sarah Kelley was nominated by her PACS coaches for Positive Athlete Georgia for the East Atlanta Region. Positive Athlete Georgia is a movement created to promote the benefits of positivity to young athletes in the communities throughout the state of Georgia with a goal of shaping the futures of young athletes for life skills beyond athletic competition. In May 2017, selected athletes and coaches will be awarded “Most Positive High School Athletes and Coaches” in their sport.

Smeltzer Receives Above and Beyond Award
Sue Nell Smeltzer with Lower School Principal Becky Callaway
Prince Avenue third grade teacher Mrs. Sue Nell Smeltzer recently received the Above and Beyond Award for the first quarter of school. The Above and Beyond Award recognizes teachers and staff members through a nomination and evaluation process conducted by members of the school’s Administrative Leadership Team. This individual is considered based on attitude and commitment, work performance, interpersonal skills, and personal traits. Mrs. Smeltzer has been teaching at PACS for 12 years and has been in education for 30 years. She expresses gratitude at receiving this recognition from her peers and leadership. “Receiving this award was a great surprise, and I feel humbled that I was chosen.”

World Series with LA Dodgers
Congratulations to Prince Avenue alumnus and Major League Baseball pitcher, Josh Fields, as the Dodgers have been competing in the World Series.
