Hike Location: Burgess Mountain, Oconee National Forest
Outing Description: Short hike to the top of a low, isolated Piedmont rise affording plenty of time for botanizing and natural history. For those interested, JP will lead an exploration of the nearby floodplain.
Hike Date: Sunday, November 19th, 2017
Meeting Time, Place and Directions: We will meet at 10:30am. From the intersection of US441/129 and SR 16 on the west side of Eatonton, take US 441/129 north 1.1 miles to Godfrey Road, and turn left. Take Godfrey Road west 3.5 miles to FR 1120. (Warning: the intersection with the forest road is not well-signed, so you should use your trip odometer.) Turn left on FR 1120. Follow passable gravel FR 1120 1.4 miles to the small, signed trailhead parking area on the left. For a Google map of the meetup location, click

Distance and Difficulty
One mile hike along road, then 1/2 mile or less to the top of Burgess Mountain. Moderate grade and several hundred foot climb on established trail.
Duration of Hike: Two hours, but some may want to hike in the floodplain adjacent to Burgess Mountain for
about another hour.
Participant Limit: 25
What to Bring and Wear: Lunch, plenty of water, rain gear, sturdy footwear. If allergic to bees/wasps, remember to bring your meds/epi-pen.
Cancellation: Participants will be notified if cancellation is required due to forecast of severe weather, etc.
Pet Policy: Pets welcome
