The season of thanks is upon us! As we reflect upon the many the gifts in our lives -- family, friendship, health and freedom -- let us also express our gratitude to those who have dedicated their lives to the service of our country.

On Veterans Day, and always, we remember the sacrifices the men and women of our armed forces have made for us.  We are forever grateful for their service.

Please note Dr. Chiappino will be out of the office on November 8th and 9th; our offices will be closed on Thursday, November 23rd and Friday 24th for the Thanksgiving holiday.  From the entire staff at New Life Wellness Center, we wish you and your family a very blessed and Happy Thanksgiving!

Yours in health,

Dr. Keri Chiappino and D r. W. Brent Reynolds

P.S.  As I celebrate this fifth year of being cancer-free, I count among my blessings not only my family, friends and patients, but also my fellow cancer survivors, particularly my Healing Boobies community.   Please see my Channel 11 PIX TV interview below with Tasmen Fadal, and Newsday's Life Victories piece concerning my journey to wellness after breast cancer and how I've finally learned to get my happy back.

Neurofeedback Provides Hope and Healing for PTSD

Studies show that more than 70% of adults in the US have experienced a traumatic event at least once during their lifetime and up to 20% of these individuals will develop Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), a mental health condition that produces profound, long-term physical and emotional symptoms.

Although PTSD is most commonly associated with those who have been involved in military combat, it encompasses a broader swath of people, including those who have witnessed tragedies, survived traumatic events or were victims of abuse.   For those suffering with PTSD, the persistent fear, anger and hyper-aroused state make it impossible to live a normal life, causing  concentration, memory, anger and relationship issues as well as impacting sound decision-making capabilities.

PTSD literally disrupts and rearranges the brain's wiring.   Overcoming symptoms is possible by rewiring the brain to help strengthen the rate and quality of brain-wave patterns throughout the brain.   Neurofeedback brain-wave therapy is an effective modality for helping to reshape and retrain the brain, helping those with PTSD become more focused, calmer, less vigilant, and more in control of their emotional reactions.

Check out Dr. Chiappino's video on PTSD and then contact our office to learn how BrainCore neurofeedback training can help you reclaim your life.  This month we are offering $50 off a QEEG brain map which helps in identifying the areas of dysregulation in the brain, providing a roadmap for healing:  631.265.1223.

Dr. Chiappino's TV and Print  Features Shine Light On Breast Cancer Survival

October was a busy news month for Breast Cancer awareness, and Dr. Chiappino was a big part of local news coverage as Newsday and PIX Channel 11 both ran feature interviews for their breast cancer survival segments.

Newsday's annual Life's Victories series shares stories of hope, strength and courage from those who are winning the battle against breast cancer.  Dr. Chiappino's journey from diagnosis to recovery kicked off the serie s.  You can read her profile at Life's Victories: Surviving Breast Cancer .

Dr. Chiappino was also featured on broadcast news on  PIX 11 as part of its
Changemakers news segment, which showcases people in the com munity who inspire and empower others.   You can see PIX 11 anchorperson Ta smen Fadal's interview with Dr. Chiappino on YouTube at Changemakers.  Both interviews focus  on the importance of addressing the emotional aspects of breast cancer survival.

Please consider sharing these stories with others you may know who are newly diagnosed, struggling through treatment, or who are in recovery.  He alingBoobies, Dr. Chiappino's online support program, provides the tools and inspiration to sort through the myriad of emotions cancer leaves behind, helping survivors to get their "happy back."  Visit www.healingboobies.com  for more information or to join our private Facebook community of thrivers.
Memory Issues? Give Acupuncture A Try!

As we age, our cognitive abilities often begin to wane; the brain's ability to  recall names and faces, facts and figures at once lightning speeds can become increasingly difficult.  Forgetfulness is a common complaint among seniors, especially those in the early stages of dementia, a progressive neurodegenerative for which there is no known cure.

A recent study found acupuncture to be helpful in slowing pre-dementia memory loss when used as an alternative or in conjunction with other therapies. This news is promising, as nearly half of all people with mild cognitive impairment progress to dementia, including Alzheimer's disease, within 5 years.

Alzheimer's Awareness month is a good reminder to learn to recognize the symptoms of this devastating disease.  Visit the Alzheimer's Association's website to become familiar with typical age-related changes and those that may signal a more serious cognitive issue.

This month our licensed acupuncturist Lori Fortunato, LAc is offering $25 off an initial visit for private pay patients. Call 631.265.1223 to schedule your appointment.
