Our last best chance to right a historic wrong

We are so close to gathering the needed signatures to place a  constitutional amendment on the  2018 ballot to return voting rights to people with felonies in their past.

Florida is one of only three states with li fetime  bans on voting for convicted felons. This affects 1.7 million Floridians.

An enormous effort has been conducted to gather the 766,200 certified signatures required.

Don't let all our hard work slip away.

We are in the final days of collecting petitions. With a deadline looming, let's do everything we can to make sure we exceed the required number.

If you haven't signed a petition, download and print one NOW .

Mail it to arrive by Dec. 10 to:

League of Women Voters
P.O. Box 15952
Plantation, FL 33318-5952

It's so easy to be part of this historic moment.

Important action alerts:

We may be busy preparing for the holidays, but Congress is in session and critical bills are being considered.

Here are two that are NEED your voice. Call or email your members of Congress on these two issues:

1. Children's Health Insurance Program

CHIP provides low-cost health coverage to children in families that earn too much money to qualify for Medicaid.

Since CHIP was implemented,  26,807 more children in  Broward County have received health insurance. Nationwide, prior to the implementation of CHIP, 14% of children did not have insurance, today the nationwide rate sits around a still unacceptable 5%.

Without action in Congress, money in Florida will run out in January.

Call your member of Congress and urge the re-authorizing of funds for CHIP.

2. Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act

The U.S. House of Representatives is expected to take up an NRA priority bill next week that would make it easier for more dangerous people - like stalkers, domestic abusers, people who have committed violent crimes - to carry a hidden, loaded gun in more public places. The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, H.R. 38, would force states to honor all permits from states with weak or non-existent concealed carry laws. This bill would allow people prohibited from getting a concealed carry permit in one state to simply apply for a permit in a state with weaker laws and get a license to carry.

We need you to call the following U.S. Florida Representatives and tell them to vote NO against this dangerous proposal:
  • Congressman Brian Mast, (R-District 18): (202) 225-3026
  • Congressman Carlos Curbelo, (R-District 26): (202) 225-2778
  • Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, (R-27): (202) 225-3931
Please call your member of Congress now and join us in sending a message that we will not stand for legislation that lets the gun lobby profit at the expense of our public safety! Say NO to the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act!
