Food for Fines is Back
November 15th- December 30th
Food for Fines is back at the Howland Public Library. Between November 15th and December 30th, the library will be running the popular Food for Fines program to benefit local food pantries. Library patrons can erase or reduce their library fines and help their neighbors in need at the same time.
Donations of non-perishables, such as peanut butter, canned tuna and bags of rice, will be accepted in payment of fines owed on Howland Public Library books, CDs, DVDs and other items. Items will be donated to local food pantries in Beacon including Fareground's Tiny Food Pantries and St. Andrews Food Pantry.

New this year, the library will also be accepting much needed personal care products such as toothpaste, soap, feminine hygiene products, and shampoo. These items will be donated to the Tiny Food Pantries.
Items must be donated at the library's circulation desk to qualify for the Food for Fines program.
Donated items must be non-perishable, labeled, undamaged, and unexpired. Food for Fines does not apply to fees for items that are lost or damaged, or from other libraries. Donations cannot be applied to future fines.
There's no limit on the number of items you can donate. If you wish to donate even if you don't have fines it would be greatly appreciated. Everyone is encouraged to give.

#Adulting in Spanish

Looking for other folks to speak Spanish with? Come as you are to the youth area of the library to do some #AdultinginSpanish with Lisa-Marie. Each week you will work on different communication skills and culturally relevant colloquialisms.
Unable to make one of these dates? No worries! This is a free, drop in class. No registration necessary.
*Note there is no class on 11/21.

International Film Night
Friday, November 17th, 7pm
Join us for International Film Night. This month's feature, "Nowhere in Africa," is from Germany. In this extraordinary true tale, a German Jewish refugee family moves to a farm in 1930s Kenya. Winner of the 2002 Best Foreign Language Film Oscar. Rated R. 141 minutes.
Free admission. All films shown in their original language with English subtitles (including films in English.) Doors open at 6:30 and film starts promptly at 7:00pm.

Coloring Books for Adults
Tuesday, Nov. 21st, 6-7:30pm
Come to unwind, while expressing your creativity! Adult coloring books offer a variety of designs, often intricate, just waiting to get lost in. Both colored pencils and fine tipped markers will be available, along with a wide variety of coloring books to choose pages from.
No registration needed for this fun free program. Stop by at any point between 6pm and 7:30pm

Fun Paper Beads Workshop
for Adults
Thursday, Nov. 30th, 6:30-7:30
Join Amina Chaudhri for a paper bead crafting program. Get the chance to make the beads, lacquer them, and finally, incorporate them into a necklace! Beads will be made from magazines. Come join us for this purely for fun event.
All supplies are provided at this free event. Registration required as space is limited. Stop by the front desk to register.

Teenscape
for Middle and High School Students

Art & Zine Club
Friday, November 17th, 3:30-5pm
Calling all artists, writers, photographers and cartoonists. Meet up with other Beacon area creative teens to draw and makes some zines. What's a Zine? Zines are DIY self published magazines. Different types of zines and art making techniques are introduced each month. Artists can work independently or collaboratively.

Special Anime Film Screening
"Your Name"
Wednesday, Nov. 22nd, 3-5
Tweens and teens are invited to a screening of the award winning 2016 film, Your Name (Kimi no Na wa). Directed by Makoto Shinkai, this beautifully animated, body swapping romance was Japan's #1 film of 2016 and the highest grossing anime film of all time. The film is rated PG and open to middle school and high school students.
Admission is free and no registration needed. Light refreshments will be served.

will host "Nick of Time"
at the Howland Cultural Center

(The Howland Cultural Center will be hosting "Scrooge" at 4pm.)
Join us on a fun-filled adventure that is truly out of this world! On a special mission, Astronaut Nick Eastman, is sucked into a time-warp and lands millions of years in Earth's dinosaur-riddled past. Snatched as a pterodactyl snack, Nick escapes only to be warped into a bizarre future with bizarre creatures.
This heart-pounding marionette extravaganza probes many unexplored and intriguing dimensions of puppetry. See if our time travelers decode the gravity of their situation and save the Earth in the Nick of Time.
This performance is FREE for children, however, there is a fee of $10 per adult. No advance tickets necessary.
