Allen School doctoral student, Elizabeth and her team of students and faculty from the University of Washington, Department of Electrical Engineering and the Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering just won Amazon's inaugural Alexa Prize!
This year's competition focused on the challenge of building a socialbot that can speak compellingly with humans on popular topics for 20 minutes.
Their team developed Sounding Board, a conversational agent designed to provide engaging and informative conversation and to transform how people interact with everyday devices in their homes. They took home the $500,000 first prize, which will be shared among the students. Wow, great job, Elizabeth! We are so proud!
