Counseling Corner November 27, 2017

Dear Saints,

I pray that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving break and were able to spend some extra time with family and friends celebrating the incredible blessings that the Lord has bestowed upon you!  Don't forget that Friday, December 1 is an Online Learning Day (Blue).

In HIS Love,
Mrs. Yakinian

UC/CSU Application Deadline
The UC and CSU application deadline is Thursday, November 30. Please do not wait until the last minute to submit! Ask yourself these questions before submitting:
  • Have I reviewed the application with a parent or counselor?
  • Have I sent my ACT or SAT test scores to all schools to which I am applying?
  • Are my UC Personal Insight Questions edited and ready to go?
  • You do not need to send official transcripts to UC or CSU schools. You only send official transcripts once you are admitted, and IF you commit there.
Counselors will be in room 102 after school on Tuesday 11/28 and Wednesday 11/29 if you would like us to review anything, answer any questions, or even watch you click 'submit'.
Junior Conferences
Junior Conferences are officially underway! During this conference you will have the opportunity to sit with your counselor to discuss your child's specific goals and interests as well as  to build a plan for the college application process.  We will spend approximately 45 minutes with each family; we request that at least one parent is present for this conference. Conferences began at the start of November, and we hope to conclude them in January before the second semester begins.  Appointment times are typically available between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. from Tuesday-Thursday.  Click here to schedule your appointment!

Learning Success Program
The time between Thanksgiving and Christmas break are often difficult for students, especially those with learning difficulties.   If you find your child struggling with getting back into the swing of school keep encouraging them to put their best foot forward everyday.  Here are a few tips to help your child and you make it through the next few weeks until Christmas break:  1. Return to established routines as soon as possible.  2. Review expectations for school and home life.  The holidays often bring unintended stress and know what is expected will make everyone feel more in control and relaxed.  3.  Check the grades on Canvas weekly.  Keeping up with work now will make the holiday break much more enjoyable.  4.  Find something to praise your child for daily, they need encouragement now more than ever.
Tip of The Week
While it may be easy to become complacent in these three weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas, don't! It is very important that you remain focused and complete all assigned work. This extra effort will support you in adequately preparing for final exams.
