The Holidays Are A Moment to Take Stock & Give Back

Every day we counsel clients that feel they are at the end of their legal rope. When we can allay their fears and help them confront their legal issues - it's a win for the client, for CARPLS, for justice, and the community.  We are truly grateful for every client we can help move forward with their life.

We've helped a grandparent reinstate visitation with her grandchild. We assisted a widow in protecting her benefits. We guided a car buyer to reach an agreement with the auto dealer after ownership of his trade-in was improperly transferred. We counseled a renter who successfully sued to regain a security deposit. No matter the legal issue, CARPLS is ready to help. 

As the largest free legal service provider in Cook County, CARPLS assists tens of thousands of people each year to resolve their legal matters, both big and small. Of every dollar donated, $.85 is reinvested in our program. CARPLS Trivia Secret Sauce

On November 14, CARPLS' Associate Board held its fourth annual trivia competition and the pursuit of trivia glory was in full affect as things get real when lawyers of all ages compete. More than 200 people on 40 teams (with some teams competing against each other at the same firm) filled Bar Louie to the brim to demonstrate the true depth of their knowledge of random facts, obscure information, and presidential tweets.

"CARPLS Trivia Night is an opportunity for social justice-minded professionals to show off their useless knowledge that we so often never get to kick back and gab over. After two years of serving on the question writing committee, I often find myself thinking up categories or interesting twists on trivia subjects throughout the year...and many of them find their way into the final questions!" reflects Robin Winer, Associate Board member. 

Each question was specially developed by our trivia writing team weeks in advance with topics covering sports, pop culture, music, national parks and "alternative facts". To ensure fairness and accuracy, the writing team tests the viability of each question.

"I'm a big fan of free beer and endless pub grub buffets, not to mention watching an entire restaurant full of lawyers get uber competitive. Trivia ticks all those boxes and then some," notes Chad Riley, long time Associate Board member.

Congratulations to the Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP team, the 2017 trivia champions with the winning high score.
