Water Authority Applauds Renewed State Commitment to Restoring the Salton Sea

The San Diego County Water Authority has commended the State Water Resources Control Board for setting annual milestones for state restoration activities at the Salton Sea and a Dec. 31, 2022, deadline for the state to deliver long-term Salton Sea restoration plans.

At its Nov. 7 meeting in Los Angeles, the State Water Board revised its 2002 order that approved the nation's largest agriculture-to-urban water transfer between the Water Authority and the Imperial Irrigation District. In doing so, the State Water Board reaffirmed the State of California's continued support for the transfer, the broader 2003 Colorado River Quantification Settlement Agreement, and the ongoing mitigation program outlined in the QSA.

Panel Discussion on Nov. 15: The Future of Water Technology

Join the San Diego Conservation Action Committee on Wednesday, Nov. 15 from 9-10:30 a.m. at SDG&E's Energy Innovation Center for a free panel discussion on the future of water technology.

The discussion will focus on trends and innovations that will shape the future of the water industry.  Panelist include: Dennis P. Calvert, BioLargo; Len Hering, Center for Sustainable Energy; Aayushi Jain, Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator; Cary Lowe, San Diego Water Tech Alliance;  and Carl Nettleton, Nettleton Strategies. Registration is required. 

Join the Citizens Water Academy in 2018    

The Water Authority wrapped up another successful class of the Citizens Water Academy in October. Thank you to everyone who participated in our fall class.

This award-winning program is open to future and emerging leaders in the San Diego region who want to learn about critical projects and programs related to water.

Upgrade to a High-Efficiency Toilet for World Toilet Day 

Did you know toilets a ccount for nearly 30 percent of an average home's indoor water consumption? 

With World Toilet Day on Nov. 19, now is a good time to think about upgrading to a high-efficiency toilet. 

The SoCal Water$mart program offers incentives for purchasing Premium High Efficiency Toilets, which use 1.1 gallon per flush or less. Qualifying toilets must be from the list of approved models.  Rebates start at $40 per toilet.
