2018 Dauphin County Dog Licenses Are Available Now

Pennsylvania State Law mandates that all dogs three months of age or older must be licensed annually.

Licenses are available for purchase at the Municipal Building, 600 Clearwater Road, Hershey (a $.50 administrative fee is charged), or on-line through PA Dog License (a $2.00 mailing fee applies).
 
The cost for dog licenses are as follows:
Male - $8.50, Neutered male - $6.50, Female - $8.50, Spayed female - $6.50, plus the applicable fees.

The cost for senior citizens (65 years old and older) dog licenses are as follows: Male - $6.50, Neutered male - $4.50, Female  - $6.50, Spayed female - $4.50, plus the applicable fees.

Applications for lifetime dog licenses must be applied for at the Dauphin County Treasurer’s office. Instructions
Exelon to Test Sirens

Exelon will test all 96 sirens located within the 10-mile emergency planning zone for Three Mile Island on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at 12:15 p.m.

During the test the sirens will sound for a full three minutes.
Applications Are Being Accepted for Advisory Boards

The Board of Supervisors is accepting resumes and cover letters for positions on the following boards:
Board of Library Directors, Downtown Core Design Board, Municipal Authority, Planning Commission, Zoning Hearing Board, Tax Collection Association, Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, Uniform Construction Code Appeals Board, General Authority, Industrial Commercial Development Authority.

Residents of Derry Township who are interested in serving on any of the listed boards are requested to submit a letter of interest and a resume to the Township of Derry, 600 Clearwater Road, Hershey, PA 17033, or jillh@derrytownship.org by December 15, 2017. Appointments will be made at the Reorganization meeting on January 2, 2018.
Library Fines Are 50% Off With a Charitable Donation

If you have a library fine to pay, now is the time to pay it and benefit a local charity. Now until December 30, when you bring a personal care item to the Hershey Public Library to donate to Love, Inc ., you will get 50% off your library fine. Some restrictions apply. Please visit the library's website for details on what to donate.

It's the perfect night for a festive tree lighting ceremony. Come to ChocolateTown Park at 6:00 p.m. for holiday musical performances, hot cocoa and cookies, and most importantly, a visit with Santa!

It's Time for Fun with Legos!

Lego fans are invited to Lego Club on Wednesday, December 6 at 4:00 p.m. at the Hershey Public Library, 701 Cocoa Avenue. Children must be at least six years old to participate. Registration is required for each month that you would like to attend.
Play Day for Families
Bring your little ones (ages 3-5) to the Hershey Public Library, 701 Cocoa Avenue, for an hour of center-based free play that encourages children to engage in the five practices of Early Literacy: talking, singing, reading, writing, and playing. Play Day for Families will be held on Friday, December 8 at 10:00 a.m. Adult participation is required. 
  Decorate Your Home with Fresh Evergreen 
This Holiday Season
Make a beautiful evergreen wreath to decorate your home for the holidays. Fresh-cut greens, ring, wire and ribbons, will be supplied and are included in the cost of the class.

The class will be held on Saturday, December 9 at 10:00 a.m. at the Hershey Public Library, 701 Cocoa Avenue.  Pick up a registration envelope at the library. The fee for the class is $35, payable at registration.
Leaf Collection

Leaf collection is scheduled to end on December 4, but may be extended based on the weather and quantity of leaves.

Dickens A Christmas Carol Is a Wonderful Event to Welcome the Spirit of the Season

Hershey Area Playhouse invites you enjoy a performance of A Christmas Carol December 1 - December 3, and December 7 - 10. Rick Farr’s light and lovely songs will be added to John Mortimer's version to create a play with incidental music. A large cast of characters will grace the Playhouse stage with 19th century costumes and speech.

All Aboard for the Annual Train Exhibit

Come and experience the delight of the holiday with trains at the Hershey Derry Township Historical Society's train exhibit.

Train enthusiasts of all ages will be thrilled to see the exhibit that showcases multiple trains and over 25 interactive displays on a large-scale layout. The exhibit features handcrafted historic Hershey landmarks such as the Cocoa Inn, the Derry Church Schoolhouse, the Hershey train depot, and a historic Hershey trolley, and Derry Presbyterian Church Sessions House. Hands-on controls for trains and miniature amusement rides attract the youngest of engineers.
 
The Society will be open Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. through December 31st. The train exhibit will remain on display until January 6. The Society will resume its regular business hours after January 1. (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.) 

Admission is $1.00 for children and students under 18 years old, $2.00 for adults, or $5.00 per family. Admission is free for Society members.

Hershey Horticulture Society Prepares for
Holiday Decorating

The Hershey Horticulture Society will hold their monthly meeting, ‘It’s Looking A Lot Like Christmas,’ at the Hershey Country Club, 1000 E. Derry Road, on Monday, December 4 at 11:00 a.m.

Floral Designer, Pat Drennen from the Town & Country Garden Club, will present designs with the theme 'Something from nothing and how it fits into your home to last the holiday season.'

Registration will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by lunch and the program. Guests are welcome. Please call 717-579-6635 for further information.
Cookie Walk Proceeds to Benefit Holy Trinity's
Youth Group Trip

If you are a cookie lover, or don't have time to bake, you should plan to go to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church's 5 th Annual Cookie Walk on Saturday, December 9 from 8:00 a.m. to noon or until the cookies are gone. Come early for all your favorites and the best selection, including gluten-free, nut-free and sugar-free. Cookies will be on sale for $10.00/box (box provided).

Proceeds benefit Holy Trinity’s Youth Group’s 2018 trip to Houston.
New at this year's Cookie Walk is a Fair-Trade Market. Come to shop for exciting, affordable gifts that support marginalized artisans and farmers around the world! Proceeds from the market will benefit SERRV International. The hours will be from 8:00 a.m. to noon.

Hershey Symphony Orchestra Presents Holiday Spectacular 2017
 
The Hershey Symphony Orchestra will present its annual Holiday Spectacular concert on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the Hershey Theatre.
The concert includes selections from the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Mannheim Steamroller, the Concert Suite from the Polar Express, selections from Nutcracker, Handel's Messiah, a Hanukkah Medley, and Leroy Anderson’s Sleigh Ride and Christmas Festival Overture. Plus, Odin Rathnam will be featured on "Winter" from Vivaldi's Four Seasons. The orchestra will be joined on a few numbers by its two youth orchestras. 

In addition, there will be audience sing-alongs and a visit from the man in the red suit! The Symphony will sell holiday poinsettias after the concert for audience members to take home.
