ARIZONA PUBLIC SCHOOL TAX CREDIT: GET BACK WHAT YOU GIVE!

If you haven't already done so, you can make your 2017 Public School Tax Credit contribution to FHUSD between now and April 15, 2018 and get a dollar-for-dollar reduction on your Arizona income tax liability. The Public School Tax Credit is $400 for married couples filing jointly and $200 for individuals and if you take advantage of this tax credit, you will receive a refund or real reduction in your state tax bill for your full gift amount.

As you know, FHUSD offers an extensive array of extracurricular activities, from athletics to robotics to gardening club to jazz band. Students from all grade levels have opportunities to participate in field trips ranging from trips to the local River of Time Museum to art-, history-, and music-focused trips to Europe. All of these enriching activities cost money to provide and typically, participation fees don't come close to covering the costs. We have a district-wide goal to fully fund all extracurricular activities from non-Maintenance and Operations funding sources, and maximizing the collection and use Public School Tax Credit funds is one of the best ways to achieve this goal.

Please share this information with friends and family in Arizona as this tax credit is available to anyone who pays income taxes in the state. Non-parents often mistakenly believe that they have to have a child in a public school in order to take advantage of this tax credit, but this is not the case.

You may designate your gift to a specific school and for a specific need, such as: Visual Arts, Athletics, Band/Choir, Field Trips, or Club Fees. You may also designate that your gift go to a specific student for a specific need.

We appreciate the tremendous support we get from our parents and community. In the case of the Arizona Public School Tax Credit, you literally get back what you give. I encourage you to take advantage of this tax feature and in doing so, you'll significantly impact the district and our students in a positive way.
